Yesterday began with another good yoga class with a former Woodlawn neighbor, now a full time instructor at Eight Limbs Studio. She was a student along with me four years ago when I began but became ambitious and took a year long course to get certified. After class, we talked for a bit and she mentioned that in the Spring, she and her husband are taking a month long vacation to visit all the canyons and parks in the West. It sounded just like a trip I would love to take, and she's sending me their itinerary along with all the bed and breakfasts and small hotels she found when setting up the trip. They will begin in Kearney, Nebraska, in time to watch the snowbill crane migration.
Ice Fishing? |
We decided to go out for a fish fry at one of clubs, The Rod and Gun, because we had not been there in months. It's too crowded in the summers, too nice at our house to wait an hour for a table. It was a rainy night but I found a parking space close to the entrance. And we were able to find a seat at the bar, a good sign. We struck up a conversation with a couple from Amherst, a suburb of Buffalo, who have a house in Greenhurst. They, like us, have grandchildren, which is always a way to set up a fun conversation. Just as we were getting to know them, their table was open, so we never got their name. Maybe we will see them next time, or at Steener's, a bar/restaurant a walk from their house. We had two fish fry's and a couple of beers for 25 bucks, a deal always and went home full. On our way out, we ran in to Doug and Dawn, friends from the Viking, our other club, who we also have not seen in a couple of months. We both vowed to return to our routine of wings and things at the Viking on Wednesday evenings. They are couple we would both like to get to know better. Doug was a history teacher at Jamestown High School.
We were home early, around 7:45, in time to watch an episode of Wallander, the Swedish sub titled series, on Netflix, which I think we are going to like. He always had his dog with him, Jussi, a labrador retriever. I am midway in my Ghosh novel, just as the British are about to begin the Opium War.
