Dinner With My Sister, Linda, And Her Husband, Rich |
We are in Euclid, at my sister Linda's for the night, and drove there late Saturday. It's always fun to wake up in their house, to sit in their family and listen to the waves of Lake Erie break on the shoreline. At the moment, it's too dark to see anything but by 7:00 there should be some light. We have an 8 hour drive ahead of us to Nashville, hopefully leaving by 8:00, getting there by 3:00 with the time change.
Yesterday we spent the morning and early afternoon getting our house ready for our travels West, making sure everything was in order, the house clean, and and when we left, the water off, the thermostats turned down. It always takes longer than we think because we thought we were ready Friday afternoon. All we had to do was put our clothes in our bags, place them in the car, and we were off. How wrong.
First, I had to take our trash to Transfer Station, close up the garage with our Honda nice an secure inside. Before that, Evie cleaned out the refrigerator and continued organizing our stuff, like various cords for our numerous devices. There's no way we could travel without computers, iPads, and iPhones. Just before lunch, Evie decided I needed to be cleaned up, a euphemism for cutting my hair and trimming my beard. Once that was done, I showered, and relaxed while Evie took her shower.
Before we left for Euclid at 3:30, we had lunch, vegetable soup and an omelet, using up what ever was left in the refrigerator. Once we were confident the house was in order, all our stuff ready, we packed our bags and began the fun of packing the car sensibly, so we did not need to take everything out if we needed something. And all we were taking into my sister's house was our devices and toiletries, having showered before we left. By going to Euclid and spending the night with my sister and brother in law, we get to see them, bring them some goodies from Evans, visit, have a great dinner, and cut two hours off our drive on Sunday.

Euclid's New Mayor, Our Niece |
We arrived in Euclid at 5:30, just as one set of grandchildren were leaving, typical for their house. We sat down to a glass of wine and their oldest son, Richie, came over to say hello and when he left their daughter, Kirsten, Mayor Elect of Euclid, stopped by with her family, and it's always fun to see them but we did not get to start cooking the steaks until 7:30. Rich cooked them outside, done perfectly by the way, and Evie ate an entire New York strip, to the shock of all but me. We then watched some of the Democratic debate as we ate our cherry pie a la mode before going to be around 10:30, all of us tired.
