I was up at a reasonable time, 6:45 (7:45, yesterday's time) and went to bed at midnight (11:00 today's time), hoping to adjust to the change to regular time. When I retrieved the paper, it was drizzling, the sky filled with gray and white clouds, above the slate gray lake. It's warming up, 52ยบ, clearing up, with sun and warmer temperatures forecast for the next five days. We are already planning some hikes, kayaking, enjoying the last of autumn's bounty.

Fall Fishing and Long Lasting Fall Color |
Yesterday was cool and overcast though it did not rain, with occasional winds, so we did not get out on the lake at all. I took my usual trip to the Transfer Station, then to the Smith Library to pick up a book I had on reserve. Meanwhile, Evie worked on giving the living room a good cleaning, taking all the books out of the bookcase, dusting, discarding and putting them back in place. And rearranging things somewhat, always a struggle because our living room is not quite big enough for two seating areas.

Bemus Point Golf Course/Cross Country Trail |
We decided we needed a walk, so we drove over to Bemus and walked the cross country course from Friday's meet. We had never been on the Bemus Point Golf Course before so it was interesting to walk the course, up the hills, through the woods, with great views of the area. We forget how hilly the area really is. We were out just about an hour, walking two plus miles, not as long as we wanted but enough (for me). I had a lunch of the final bowl of kuru falsuyle with rice, and watched some football before settling on the couch to read and take a nap.
At 5:30, the McClures came over, and we drove in the late afternoon light to the Nic L Inn, a restaurant about forty five minutes away, near Onoville on the Kinzua Reservoir. It's a lovely ride, through Busti, Frewsburg, to Bone Run Road, which winds in a valley between the Allegheny hills. It's one of our favorite drives and even though it was starting to get dark, the golds, browns and yellows still stood out. The Inn is cosy, rustic looking, with a fireplace blazing. Unfortunately, our meals were below average. Evie ordered beef wellington and she could hardly eat it...the meat overdone and tasteless, the mushroom coating tasted artificial and salty. Ron's steak was average, as was Linda's scallops. My chicken Parmesan, however, was fine. After all, it is an Italian restaurant, albeit with new owners. So we were disappointed, vowed to come back in a year, for a beer and appetizers only, early in the day, so we can enjoy the colors more fully.
We were home by 8:30, in time for Ron to watch the World Series. We watched it in between commercials on other shows, like Stephen Colbert and James Corden. We both stayed up until midnight, to see the ending of the game, to prepare for the change in time. It seemed to work.
Today we hope to enjoy the sunshine that just appeared at 8:50, after a morning of clouds, and do something active, perhaps kayaking and a walk. And I will continue my vow to pressure cook a pound of different beans each week; this week it will be pinto beans, then done Texas style.
