Foggy and Overcast Most of The Day

Kayak Morning
7:12
Up as usual, at 6:15 and surprise, not much has changed since yesterday morning.  It's still in the 60's and gray on gray outside, lots of rain in parts of the Southern Tier but none here yet.  It looks like it will be this way the next couple of  days, a good day to go shopping and spend, spend, spend.  We may go looking for a new mattress, scary because I have no idea of what we want, what might be comfortable long term, what would be good for an aging back.  Any suggestions, send them my way.

Morning Sky While Kayaking

Yesterday, it rained early but cleared up some by 9:30, though there were dark clouds off to the north and east so what did we do, went for a kayak ride.  We started out towards Long Point and within twenty strokes it started to rain, not hard but enough to get you wet.  We headed south towards the blue sky and  the rain stopped, so we decided to stay out as long as possible with no destination in mind. We literally sat out in the middle of the lake, along shore lines, in front of docks, and just relaxed, not worrying about getting anywhere.  We floated, let the wind take us, and listened to the water, to the bird sounds, and admired the trees, the various shades of orange, brown, and yellow/gold.  We also must have floated for five minutes as Evie took pictures of a heron on an isolated boat lift.  He paid little attention to her floating kayak until she was almost upon him, then he flew off.  In yesterday's Blog,  I used the image of being on a cruise ship, as we sat on our chaise lounges on the dock; well, yesterday, we felt like the only people in the world, as we floated in our kayaks, our lake bound chaise lounges. It was a very different paddle for both of us, zen like I suppose, with no goal in mind, like let's head to Long Point, then to Tom's Point and home.  We just went, kinda of fun.  I hope I don't sound too much like a yoga dork.

The rest of the afternoon we just hung out, like the previous week, walking out to the dock when the sun came out, heading in when it started to drizzle.  It was that kind of afternoon, warm enough to sit out but overcast enough to bring some rain.

Jamestown Cool at the  Dykeman Young  Gallery Opening

Kathryn Harris, Cut and Paste

Trio at Gallery

We had a really fun evening, another Jamestown night, and we invited our neighbors the Scholtz's and Tom Broeren to come along.  We picked them up at 6:30 and drove downtown to the Dykeman Young Gallery and Emporium on 2nd Street.  They were having an opening gathering for the show of a young artist, Kathryn Harris's 'Cut and Paste,' with appetizers, even music.  It was a great night to be downtown, and we browsed both the gallery and the Emporium, along with lots of the mostly young in Jamestown.  We even talked with the featured artist (she was our waitress at Forte a couple of weeks ago), took her picture, and she seemed overwhelmed by it all, as this was her first showing ever.  We stayed about forty five minutes, browsing, grazing, and listening to the music, feeling like one of the 'cool' people in Jamestown.  We then took our group to show them the Skate Board park across the street, and they loved it, having never seen anything like this before.  And the skaters were great, welcoming us, talking about their love for their skate boards, thanking us for stopping by.  Amazing. We then drove to the Rod and Gun Club, sat at the bar for a beer, then went into the dining room for a fish fry.  Everyone loved their dinners, especially the prices, and we got to listen to the band for twenty minutes, one my Dad would have loved because they played mostly Big Band music and Dixieland, with a great clarinet and trombone.  We got home around 9:45, watched some TV and went up to bed to read, Beautiful Ruins for Evie, And Sons for me. It's always enjoyable to go upstairs to read when you have a book you enjoy.
