A Rainy Night, Somewhat Clearing Morning

Cut and Mulched 16 Hours Ago
Up at 7:00, to darkness, rain drops on the roof most of the night, not the beautiful sunrise like other mornings, as the weather changed yesterday. The end of 'dock day afternoons?'  It's 49ยบ, some rain forecast for the morning, a cloudy afternoon. What are we going to do this morning if it's too wet to hike?  We are so used to just going off somewhere because the weather has been so amazing.

Yesterday did seem like the end of our Indian Summer days, as rain came in late afternoon, some drizzle earlier in the day as well.  We did not take our usual walk to the CI, too lazy I guess but I did ride my bike around the perimeter around noon, just to get some exercise, plus the CI is fairly flat, a fun place to ride in the off season, little traffic, just a few walkers.  I also hit the library, to pick up the first of a series of books set in Nazi Germany called Zoo Station, by David Downing.   Also stopped at Tops to pick up some phyllo dough for Evie.  We are having the Heinz's over for dinner on Tuesday and Evie wants to make another one of our favorites, a cabbage strudel with two cheeses.
A Typical Morning

The rest of the day seemed wasted, as we did not do anything exciting.  Evie had lots of errands to run in Lakewood, wanted to get them done, so she went off around 2:00, just as it was clearing up and getting nice outside; it did not last long.  Because it looked like rain around 2:00, I decided to mulch some leaves, so I cut both Leonards and our yards, finishing just before it started raining for good, the rest of the evening and night.
A Late Afternoon
Evie returned home around 4:00 and immediately got cooking, putting together Lex's Roast Chicken, from the Zingerman Cookbook, a famous deli in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  It's chicken half's or thighs roasted on top of a bed of braised onions, celery, and french bread, doused with lemon juice.  It's almost like a Turkey dinner, with the stuffing.  That and salad and broccoli was all we needed.  We watched a movie called Match Point, from Woody Allen, very different from his usual flicks.  It was well made though we did not much like the story, mostly because it's about a philandering husband who goes to extremes to hide his affair.  It must have reminded Woody of his own philandering though not the end. No humor in it either. Before bed, we watched the next episode of Homeland, a disappointment, lots of filler, though we now know what's up with Brody.  He's living in an abandoned high rise in Caracas for some reason and the living conditions are accurate, as squatters have taken over the various unfinished high rises (at least that's what I have read), and turned them into small cities, with their own security, mostly violent drug cartels.
