A Day and A Night At Letchworth State Park

Up at 5:45, as we have to get ready for our visit to Letchworth State Park, a two hour drive from here, 96 miles east, some what north from Chautauqua.   Unfortunately, the weather is not cooperating and what should have been a visit to the park at peak leaf peeper season may be ruined by rain.  NPR described today as a 'wild weather day,' with thunderstorms and winds up to forty miles an hour.  The weather gods seem to be against us this fall. We are staying in the park at the Glen Iris Inn, which should be nice even if it rains. We hope to leave around 8:30, stop in Arcade, NY, for breakfast and get to the park before noon, where we hope to hike if we can, or just tour the park in our car if it rains.

Our House

Yesterday was much like other days, as it rained a bit, but most of the day was partly cloudy and warm, warm, warm, so that it was even hot to sit out on the dock, as is our wont lately, relaxing and reading and enjoying the fall days.  I did go to the CI for a brief walk, a stop at the library to pick up three books I had on hold, and shopping at the Lighthouse to pick up a few things.  It was really uncomfortable walking, hot and humid, not the kind of fall day we like.  Evie finished the novel, Beautiful Ruins, which she liked and started on her next book Bread Alone.  We both spent time on the dock though I tended to watch the NFL games off and on and both of us watched the exciting finish of the Cowboys/Broncos game.  Most games are a bore but this one was really exciting, lots of scoring, both teams slugging it out offensively.

We had leftovers for dinner, the shrimp and pasta, and the vodka pasta, both still good after a day or two in the refrigerator.  And with a salad, that's all we needed, except for the brownies and ice cream of course.  We are upset that the games bit into the TV schedule so our favorite, The Good Wife, will be on an hour late.  Life sucks.

In 1970, I bought a VW van, the color of the one below but not a camper, and picked it up at the Istanbul docks.  It served us well for seven years of travel in Turkey and Europe, two years in the States until I sold it for three hundred bucks.  Last week, Volkswagen announced they will stop making the VW Bus/Camper.  RIP
