Rhododendrons at CI |
Yesterday was a spectacular day on the lake, however, perhaps because it's been so long since we, at least, have had a day like this as we have been on the road quite a bit. Sunny, little breeze, blue skies and lake, it begged us to be outside. We decided to walk the CI early, so we could enjoy the rest of the day. The colors in the CI are amazing right now, so far behind the East Coast. The rhododendron's are just starting to lose their peak but are still colorful and the peonies are in bloom, at last, so it's a joy to walk through these heavily wooded and landscaped streets. There are more people than during the winter but it's still nothing like when the season opens. We took our time, talked to a nice couple we have met various times on our walk from Lancaster, PA and ran into Anne Marshaus and her two daughters, late to church, the girls cute as usual, dressed up as if for a party.
Docks Under Water Because of High Lake Waters |
We returned home around 10:00, I think, and got right to work so we could enjoy the afternoon. Evie worked both inside and out and I washed windows, the first time since last fall. I love using my squeegee, like the professionals, and the windows look great. Like many projects, cleaning the windows led to Evie clearing off the front porch, sweeping, vacuuming and then washing it. Lots of pollen on everything at the moment, so it needed a good cleaning. Fortunately, we have had covers on the furniture much of the past few weeks, so the couches and chairs are clean.
We had our usual Sunday brunch, bacon, home fries, eggs and toast but ate it out on the dock for the first time, a lovely way to welcome the afternoon. Quite a bit of action on the lake, for June, mostly because it was such a great day. We decided to stay out on the dock, so we went in and put on our bathing suits, deciding to just relax, read and sunbathe. Within a half hour, however, we were off the dock, as it was surprisingly hot despite the mild temperature of 73º. It was just not comfortable sitting in the full sun, but I admit to our not liking hot weather much, preferring the coolness of fall and spring, the cold of winter.
Fishing Off Our Front Yard |
So what does Evie do when it's too hot to sit on the dock? Cut the lawn, which needed it, especially since it was supposed to rain for the next couple of days. While Evie cut the lawn, I worked on our side zebra grasses, which we had neglected to cut down in early spring. I had to fight my way in between the old and new, cutting the old down to about 12 inches, filled two buckets with the dead grass, and took them up the hill. Around 5:30, we showered, both of us sweaty and uncomfortable from our labors, and sat on our clean front porch, with guacamole and chips, having a beer, watching the lake, appreciating the fact that we always have a view to enjoy, a lake ever changing, the sky, and the undeveloped lake front of Long Point. We compared it with the poor residents who live down towards Sandy Bottom, just this side of Wells Bay, still littered with boaters and swimmers, probably 20 boats, its owners swimming and drinking just off the shoreline.
An easy dinner of left over pizza and a salad, some TV, our guilty pleasure, Revenge, and reading before bed, around 11:00. A good day, so nice to have the sun, but I enjoy today's grayness as well, look forward to yoga and some shopping.
