Knobby Knees, Like Mine! |
Up at 7:00 for some reason, to an overcast morning, rain, an empty lake. It's 62º and it's supposed to be like this all day, a good day to stay in side, go to yoga, shop, anything but enjoy the outdoors. Since we have been back to the lake, we have had only one nice day. I am not used to this.
Because of yesterday's rain, we spent the day inside, doing small chores, watching more TV than we should have but what the heck, we are retired, no guilt at not preparing for a class. I did go to Yin yoga with Danielle, a good class, lots of ladies, one guy, and we always tend to do something new or different though by the time I get to writing about the class, I forgot what it was. I do remember one that I could not even get close to doing...sitting down, pulling one leg under your torso, then stretching the other leg out in front and up in the air, grabbing the foot with your hand. I could not even get close to doing this though some of the women had little trouble. I have been thinking about why I continue with these classes and have come up with a couple of simple answers; they give me something to do each morning, have become a routine, and I must enjoy or like that. And I feel like I am doing something healthy, good for my body and mind, because I feel good after having done it. And it's not too difficult, rather an easy hour and a half, not like a hard workout at the gym though I do not get that high from having really worked hard at something. And I have seen some progress in my poses, am more supple, more able to do the poses. Finally, I like being in an activity where I meet new people, both the teachers and students though our connection goes no farther than class or the coffee shop, perhaps I see some of the women or guys when I shop, which is fine. I only thing I don't like is it takes up my morning, means I usually have not gone hiking or cross country skiing. Some how I have to fit them into my afternoons, which is easier in the winter for some reason. Enough thinking.
Around 4:00, I took advantage of a respite in the precipitation, jumped in my kayak, put on my slicker and life jacket, and went fishing off towards the reeds and Wells Bay. I stayed out for about an hour, got lots of follows but not a bite, typical. And it started to pour when I was out there, but I have to admit to loving it, sitting there in the middle of the lake, water pelting me and the lake surface, like thousands of gun shots on the water's surface. I stayed out till my slicker soaked through to my shirt and I started to get cold. Obviously there was no thunder, just rain and little wind, making it enjoyable.
For dinner, Evie had put a bunch of short ribs in the slow cooker in the morning, so we had them, with a tasty gravy, over mashed potatoes and a salad, as we caught up with our two current favorite shows, Mad Men and The Killing. It's nice to have them to look forward to, or a good film. In fact, I just added two DVD's to my Netflix account, so we can have more options for the next couple of months. After exhausting all the new films i want to see, I will cancel it. So now we get Hulu Plus, Netflix, HBO and Showtime. There had better be something worth watching with all these choice.
A final thought...have you ever noticed that when you are not looking for something to watch or a recipe, everything looks good but when you want a film to watch or a recipe to make, nothing strikes your fancy? If anyone can this phenomenon, let me know.
