A Southerly Wind, Gray Skies, Highs In Thirties

7:45
Snow Shoeing Woodlawn Last Week

Sunny Afternoon

Slept in till 7:15, a bonus, though Evie was already up, enjoying her coffee and the fireplace.  It looks as though we will miss the 'big storm,' as most of it will be north of us and of course over the entire East Coast.  We could get five inches of snow tonight or just rain, depending on how cold it is.  No yoga today, so we will enjoy the leisure of a morning with nothing we have to do.

Yoga was packed yesterday, as we were like sardines, up against walls and what a change from Monday's class when we only had four people.  We did some different poses, one I had never seen nor heard of.  We took two ten inch egg shaped blocks, lay down on our stomachs, placed each point of the  standing egg shape on each side of the belly button and just lay prone for a number of long breaths.  Supposedly there are muscles in that area that we rarely use and this strengthens or stretches them.  It felt surprisingly good.  Evie also worked out at the gym and both of us are getting to know some of the people we exercise with which is nice.  We then had a big shopping day, anticipating the possibility as of yesterday of a big storm.  We went to Sam's, then Wegman's, spending enough money for a great College Spring Break in Florida back in the 1960's.

We relaxed much of the afternoon, though Evie made one of my favorite cookies,  Salted Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies.  Sound good?  They are! Late afternoon, our neighbor John Johnson, went gliding by on his cross country skis, making it look so inviting that I got mine out, and went out for out to the lake and skied for about a half hour.  When I got to the campground, there was a five foot wide ribbon of slush, starting at the shore and going out about 100 feet, stopping me as I did not want water to freeze on my skis and it  did not seem safe.  I found the same thing just as I got to Wells Bay.   For dinner, I made spaghetti carbonara, a fairly easy recipe, especially if you have the cheese grated.  It all can be done in the ten minutes it takes to boil water, my kind of preparation.  I used lots of bacon (can you ever use too much), crisped it,  added the noodles, then eggs and cheese mixture, and voila, dinner.  We finished  watching House of Cards, and we continue to enjoy it, as it does surprise, pique your interest with the amorality of the politicians as well as reporters, both intent on getting either the power (the Vice Presidency)or the story (illegal influence, perhaps murder),  and damn those who may get in the way.

Right now it's 34º outside, gray skies, with a gentle fall of snowflakes.  Surprise.  A couple of fishing huts are up over at Long Point.  Yesterday afternoon, there must have been at least twenty five guys out since it was warmer, in the 30's
