Kinney's Run |
Ron Mc Clure and a Huge Downed Maple Tree |
We did manage an early morning walk through the Woodlawn Victoria woods, but that was about it for our activity for the day. I have to admit this weather parallels our moods in that we don't feel energetic, have planned no hikes, so we sit and read, watch TV, follow the news about the aftermath of Sandy, and get angry when we turn on Fox News, less so on the other channels. I have to laugh at a bumper sticker I saw recently, one I would put on my car. It reads: Turn Off Fox News: It's Bad for America.
Most stations are talking about the storm, how Obama and Christie are touring New Jersey. Not Fox News. It's talking about Ben Gazi, how Obama lied about it, screwed up things. It's amazing how different the focus of different news stations. What they choose to talk about is the story and it is mostly political and, in Fox's Case, it's how terrible a President Obama is. To be fair, MSNBC rarely criticizes Obama, has little good to say about Romney. Maybe we should stop watching both stations. Evie did make make cookies in the afternoon, a new recipe for oatmeal cookies, and they were really good. For dinner, we went to the Seezuhr House, with Ron Mc Clure, who was able to get back into his house, but stayed for the night to make sure the downed maple was taken care of. Lots of trick or treaters on the streets of Bemus when we drove over around 7:00. They even came into the Seezuhr to get candy which was neat. A fair crowd though when we left, only the bar was busy. We all had the Wednesday special, 10 ounce rib eye, with potato and salad for ten bucks. Not only is it inexpensive but really good, the rib eye tender and tasty (must be the salt). We got home around 9:00, said good by to Ron who goes back to Pittsburgh today, watched some TV then went to bed, tired from doing practically nothing.
It's now 9:30 and I have just returned from breakfast at the Bemus Point Inn with my Chautauqua buddies. Lots of stories about the CI, about working there, and no politics, which was great. Not a lot of serious talk, mostly just shooting the breeze, moving from travel plans, to eating places, to friends in the area, how they coped with the storm. It's a pleasant way to spend a Thursday morning, as we are all congenial.
