Snow flakes |
Up at 7:10, to snowflake, another 6-8 inches last night, as all bushes, tree branches, are covered with a layer of snow. The rhododendron's, in the front yard, have huge 8 inch cotton like puffs on them, as the flocks of sparrows and finches continue to flock to the feeder, back to the trees limbs. They have gone through a feeder in about two days, so I may hold off filling it, for now, as I will give through all my feed in a week. Hopefully, they will leave and other birds, a larger variety will come.
Yesterday, we took two hikes, one in the morning, up along Kinney's Run to the campground, then through it to the north limits, to Chautauqua Escapes, and back, about an hour. We saw nary a camper though the snow mobilers will be coming in today, no doubt. Later in the afternoon, we hiked the Woodlawn woods, about a 35 minute walk, down to Victoria, a loop in the woods, back to Victoria and home. As I mentioned, I like late afternoon for a walk, the woods were lovely and quiet, the only sound the wind scuttling the tree limbs.

Snickerdoodles |
We came home to a dinner of Evie's Turkish soup, a combination of wheat berries, garbanzo beans and lentils, along with toasted cheese sandwiches on her black bread, and of course, my favorite snickerdoodles for dessert. A good day, great hikes, good food, a warm house, a compelling book and of course, A GOOD WIFE.

Black Bread(with cocoa, coffee, molasses, rye flour, caraway seeds) |
Today, we hope to snow shoe either Dobbins Woods or Long Point, depending on our moods. Right now, we seem snowed in though Shane cleared our road last night. We intend on staying in, enjoying a walk, taking it easy with dinner, as I hope to make my special fried rice for dinner. It sounds good to have something Asian. And there are lots of good basketball and football games on, to watch when I get tired of reading.
For now, it's great just sitting here, watching the jumble snow flakes fall silently, obscuring the lake, filling the sky, with more to come in this 21 degree weather. The flag hangs flaccid, at the moment, no wind, perhaps frozen and the cairn has puffs on snow on it.
