The Gang's Almost All Here |

7:16 |
It's 8:20 and I have yet to get out on the lake because I have been sitting out on our front porch with my son-in-law Drew, solving the world's problems. He's a veteran of over 20 years so it's fun to get his perspective on Ukraine and other American skirmishes like Afghanistan and Iraq. Tom just joined us so he would be mentioned on the blog.

Docking It |
Well, yesterday the seven of us were able to enjoy the day until the afternoon when the heat developed, the high in the 80s maybe even 90ยบ. For me, it was a typical morning of kayaking, breakfast, the blog, and waiting for everyone to wake up, which was around 9:00 or later. We didn't do much until late morning when we all went out on the dock to swim and sunbathe. I pulled out our blue water mat to enjoy and I took the cover off the boat, thinking we would go for a boat ride. Around 1:30, we went inside and had lunch, devouring Evie's corn chowder.

By 2:30, it was just too hot to sit out on the dock or go for a boat ride, so we stayed in, a couple of us taking naps or reading or just relaxing. The girls played Bananagrams until 4:30 when Jill's family arrived from Virginia and it was time to start happy hour. I had lots of beer and wine on ice, so we sat around catching up, enjoying libations and Evie had made hanky pankies a few days ago so she heated them up and we all devoured them.

Cousins |
Beth and family were flying in from Dallas and arrived later than anticipated, at 8:15. We were planning on eating outside but just as we thought about dinner, it rained so we had to put three leaves in our dining room table for dinner. Evie made two pans of baked ziti a week ago so all she had to do was heat it up and make a salad and we had a great dinner.

Baked ziti si a tradition because it can be made ahead of time. For dessert, Jill brought whoopie pies and we also had pound cake with ice cream. We didn't leave the table until 9:30, and clean up was easy because we used paper plates and plastic fork and knives.

Dinner |
Evie was the first to go up to bed, followed soon by the rest although Beth and I talked until 11:30, and four of the kids watched Black Mirror before bed. Tonight, our granddaughter Marisa flies in for the weekend from Dallas arriving at midnight because she has to work until 5:00. I have to remember to not lock the door!
