7:24 |
The sun has just popped out momentarily from the cloud banks. It's 35º, a bit breezy but I will be able to kayak. As usual this time of the year, I will probably be the only one on the lake at this hour although I did kayak past a fisherman on Saturday, probably the guy who later got caught in the storm. It's 9:20 and I was out for close to an hour, chasing off a couple of eagles but I was able to photograph lots of wood ducks, hugging the shoreline.

Yesterday was a brisk but pleasant day out, windy but lots of sun so we could get outside. I was only able to paddle for 20 minutes because of the wind and waves but that was enough. Once again, I picked up some deadfall and later in the afternoon, took two more trash cans of deadfall up the hill. It's become a regular part of my day recently. We did have a long coffee time but by 11:00, we were ready to go for our usual Sunday walk around the Chautauqua Institution. We walked end to end, over two and a half miles and it took us over an hour. Fortunately, we were protected from the winds most of the way so it was pleasant meandering among the various streets.

When we returned home, Evie pulled some pancakes out of the freezer, popped them in the air fryer and I had breakfast, pancakes, with butter and lots of maple syrup. I then read, napped, took some deadfall up the hill, waiting for the Women's NCAA Basketball Finals at 3:30. It was a disappointing game because we wanted Iowa to win but LSU played the game of their life, and hardly missed from the three-point line. I didn't feel the game was decided until the referee called a bogus technical foul on Caitlin Clark and LSU then made four free throws to lock up the game, or so I thought. Most fans were not happy with the referees for either side.

Once the game was over, we were on our way to Linda and Ron's for Sunday dinner. Linda had a cheese and artichoke casserole ready for an appetizer so we sat around their kitchen table, enjoying a glass of wine and the appetizer. Dinner was a typical Sunday dinner, pot roast in wine sauce with lots of veggies. It hit the spot and with a salad with blue cheese dressing, all four of us were happy campers. For dessert, we had something healthy, a cheese and pear plate while we finished our wine. It was a good way to either end or begin the week. We were home by 9:45 and both of us were ready for bed.
