7:18 |
It's not even 7:00 as I start this and have been up since 6:15. I was thinking of getting in some kayaking before breakfast but it looks like rain so I will probably bag it. The temperatures are back to normal after yesterday's 70+º. It's now 9:15 and I have just returned from breakfast and did not get in a paddle, alas, even though it did not rain.
Wednesday I was back to routine, with a long paddle, then breakfast and the blog before driving to Lakewood for a yoga class. Class with Tara usually starts out nice and easy but then it becomes more rigorous and difficult so I worked up a sweat trying to just keep up. After class, I stopped at Spectrum to get my glasses adjusted, then went home, resisting the urge to do some retail therapy at a store.
When I returned home, the weather was starting to heat up and thunderstorms were predicted as well as some heavy winds. Evie worried about our new car so we cleared out the garage so we could park it inside. Afterward, I had the last of the carrot soup and the leftover rigatoni with mushrooms for lunch and watched my show. By 1:30 I was briefly napping, then went outside to do some more raking of the parking areas before the storms arrived. For about a half hour, the yard and house were pelted with heavy rains, flooding our yards and Evie's garden. Fortunately, it did not last long and the winds were not damaging although there is some deadfall in the front yard for me to pick up of course.
Storm In The Afternoon |
We were having pork schnitzel for dinner so around 4:00, Evie prepped it, pounding it flat and dipping it in flour, egg, and bread crumbs, and letting it sit for an hour. We were then able to enjoy a glass of wine before Evie adjourned to the kitchen to fry up pork, make a salad and pull the baked potatoes out of the oven. We loved our dinner since we have not had schnitzel in quite a while. We decided to watch The Whale on Prime, a film nominated for an Oscar for best picture. It's a depressing film as it follows the last few days of a depressed and morbidly obese gay man, estranged from family and friends. His daughter stops by to see him after eight years and her reaction to him is over the top, even ridiculous at times, and contrasts with the quiet care of his lover's sister. Brandon Fraser won the Best Actor Oscar for his performance, of a man who has given up on life. We were happy to get back to our favorites, Jeopardy and ER, and once again were struck by how real the characters are on ER, deftly drawn and not overdone like many films.
