It's 8:00 as I start this on a wintry morning mix. Snow paints the tree trunks and branches, the lawn white under an inch of snow. I am happy to see the surface of the lake undulate, meaning it is not iced over. It's 30º and may stay around that temperature most of the day. It's starting to get foggy which may throw a wrench into my plans for paddling. It's now 9:40 and I was out for close to an hour, the lake was smooth, with a few flurries, and no wind, perfect for winter kayaking.

Yesterday I got in a short paddle, cut short because of the ice but at least I was out on the lake. Both of us were up early because Evie had another and we hope last doctor's appointment in Jamestown. It was short and sweet and everything seemed fine after all the blood work. On the way home, we could not help but stop at the liquor store, then Wegmans, and blow a wad of money. It least we are now set for the winter blues with lots of good food and libations.
We were home just as the House was beginning to vote for the eleventh or twelfth time. It's fine listening to the Republicans talk about how this is democracy in action whereas the Democrat's unification is clearly undemocratic. They can twist anything to their favor, like the Sophists of ancient Greece. I had soup and salami, tomato, and cheese sandwiches. We took a recess from the circus so I could watch my show, Trapped, set in Iceland. They had better find the bad guy quick because we are on the eighth episode.
Early afternoon, I did my usual, napping some and reading. Evie, however, was busy making our dinner, roasting eggplant in the air fryer, making a tomato sauce, for rigatoni and the eggplant. fast becoming a favorite. Once that was done, she, too, relaxed until late afternoon when we relaxed with a drink and appetizers, knowing dinner was done and we could enjoy our leisure. Dinner was great, the eggplant was nice and tender, and the sauce was just spicy enough. We watched our shows but neither of us could stay up until 10:00 to watch the continuation of the circus, the final vote which made Kevin the speaker, after the fifteenth vote. I loved McCarthy's comment about the past five days. "This is the great part...Because it took this long, now we have learned to govern." Amen.
Interestingly, the zealots who steadfastly refused to vote for McCarthy were mostly the same group that tried to overthrow the 2020 election on January 6th. Patriots, right. And my only regret is that Representative Rogers of Alabama had not been restrained from assaulting Matt Gaetz of Florida on the floor. That would really be "democracy" in action.
