Never Again

A Night Of Golf Stories

7:07

It's 6:45 as I start this blog and it looks like I will not be kayaking because of the fog. It's so heavy that I cannot see beyond our dock.  It's a chilly 54º and it should be a nice day, not too warm and sunny.

In The Fog

Yesterday was a busy day for both of us because we were having three couples over for dinner.  And it's why I always say never again after having someone over for dinner. I say this because our day is often taken up with the prepping, of food, including the main course, appetizers and dessert, the house, and the yard.  Now I have to admit that Evie shoulders the brunt of the work but I am her trusted sidekick and end up being busy as well. So much of the morning was taken up with these chores even though Evie prepped a few things on Tuesday.  While Evie cooked, baked, and prepped, I trimmed the bushes, vacuumed the downstairs, swept and cleaned both porches, did some dishes, and then rested. To be honest, most of the work was done in the morning.  Lunch was easy, open a can of sardines and enjoy them with crackers.

Wine Time

It also rained a couple of times while we were working and we had the radio blasting music much of the time so it was not as bad as I made it out to be.  In fact, if we were being totally honest, we enjoyed getting ready for our friends.  We both showered and got cleaned up around 5:00 and Evie had the Peruvian chicken in the oven and bruschetta appetizer ready by 6:00 when everyone arrived.

Dinner For Eight

We were able to sit outside on the front porch and enjoy our appetizers and wine.  Stan was the golf pro at Chautauqua for forty years and everyone else, was a golfer so much of the talk was about golf, the celebrities Stan golfed with, the courses that everyone had played over the years.

While everyone traded stories, Evie and I filled the wine glasses, plated the dinners, the Peruvian chicken, rice, and salad.  The hit of the night was the chicken with a cilantro and jalapeno sauce.  We sat at the table talking and laughing and never got to our health, or the drugs we are taking, things that retirees like us end up talking about.  It was refreshing.

We had Evie's chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert,  the highlight bring Evie's lighting of sparklers that burned a hole through two tablecloths, fortunately not harming the cherry table.

After that, we adjourned from the table and took a selfie before everyone headed home around 9:45.  We washed up most of the dishes and put them in the dishwasher before going up to read and sleep. It was a fun evening.  I think we will do it again.
