6:24 |
It's a morning of gray, a light drizzle, and a surprisingly warm 70º at 6:20. It rained off and on from yesterday afternoon, through the night and should be similar most of the day. It's 8:20 and I did get in a paddle, with an occasional light drizzle.
Kayak Morning |
Monday morning was our window of opportunity for getting things done or in my case, doing something. I kayaked and had breakfast, wrote the blog, then decided to go for a bike ride over at Bemus. Evie suggested I stop at Peterson's Farm for corn and peaches so, before my ride, I stopped at a new coffee shop and bakery in Greenhurst called Killa Kookies and Kream. It has a wide variety of cupcakes, gelato, coffee, and other sweets although I did not buy anything, Maybe next time because everything looked good although not cheap.
Long Point |
I then drove to Bemus Point, parked my car, and rode for an hour through the park and back to Bemus. It was a good ride and when I got home, Evie was finishing up mowing the yard just as it started to drizzle, perfect timing for both of us.
Black Locust Trail |
Lunch was the leftover farro and vegetables and chicken and of course the special Peruvian sauce. The rest of the afternoon we were housebound because of the constant drizzle but neither of us minded it. In fact, it felt good to just stay in and listen to the rain. We both read, snoozed, and watched the tragic news about Afghanistan. Biden is going to take a big hit for the way the departure has been handled. Fox News is blasting him hourly although they have been strong advocates of pulling out. It's just that Biden, not Trump did it. It's maybe the first time we have watched much of the news in weeks.
We were both excited about dinner, Wienerschnitzel, baked potatoes, applesauce, and a salad. Mid-afternoon Evie had prepped the pork, pounding it thin and breading it. I washed the potatoes and put them in the oven, a big help before we adjourned the porch with a glass of wine and listened to it rain. Each late afternoon I search Netflix, Prime Video, and Hulu for something to watch, either a series or movie. I also check out HBOMAX and Apple TV in case they have something interesting. We settled on a quiet Japanese film called Sweet Bean. It follows the owner of a tiny restaurant that makes a Japanese staple, Dorayaki, a sweet bean paste pancake. The shop is failing until a 76-year-old woman applies for a job and makes the sweet bean paste. The restaurant flourishes, as a relationship develops between the older woman, the cook, and a young teenage girl. Things begin to fall apart, however, as the older woman leaves and eventually dies. The film is a long, slow, and gentle look at human relationships between generations and is worth watching.
