On The Road, Again |
It's 8:00 on a sunny, 51º morning in Bristow, VA. Drew and I have been up talking football for over an hour as the gals sleep in. We hope to be on our way to the beach by 10:00, so they are going to have to get up soon.
We left the lake on a beautiful morning, hitting the road by 8:30. We predicted a seven-hour drive but made it in six and a half. We stopped once in Warren for an Egg Mc Muffin and coffee, then three times for gas, filling up each time, thinking it might be our last. Fortunately, there were no empty gas stations through Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Northwestern Virginia. It was a beautiful drive, especially when we got to West Virginia and Virginia, with rolling hills of green. Traffic was not bad with no evidence that I could see of a gas shortage. Today, when we head south, it may be different, especially when we enter North Carolina.

We arrived in Bristow just after 3:00 and Jill and the girls were home, Drew at work. The last time we saw them was October of 2020 and it's been even longer for Hayden, close to 18 months. The girls look the same, seem happy, despite spending most of school online. The girls left at 5:00, to do some shopping and drop Halle off at her job, a cashier at a local Pizza Place. So far, she's banked 900 bucks and is so excited. Drew came home about 4:30, after an hour on the road, and said most gas stations around here appear to be open.

The last time we were here we loved the Indian take-out food. So we spent 15 minutes picking out all kinds of good dishes before ordering. Then, Drew and I picked up the food, with Chipotle for Hayden "the brat." We sat out on their amazing screened-in porch and enjoyed our Indian dinners. We then sat around talking with the gang until 10:00, when we were tired enough to go downstairs to bed.
