It's 8:45 and I was out padding for a good hour, north to Magnolia, stopped to talk politics with Tina and Jim who were also kayaking, then paddled home into a surprisingly brisk wind. At the moment it's a bit overcast but should clear up by noon and be a good day to be out on the lake, perhaps even get in our first swim of the year.

Yesterday could not have been a nicer Sunday, lots of sunshine, deep blue lake, and temperatures ranging from the 60's early to the '80s later afternoon.  I got in a good paddle before the blog then we both were outside, working again in Evie's garden or the bushes, pulling weeds, a result of the rain and breaking up up the ground, discouraging more growth of weeds.  It was warm enough that we both were sweating by the time we took a break.  I wanted to get my section done before lunch, so at 12:30, Evie made me a menemen, eggs, tomatoes, and feta cheese and I took a break and watched my show.

Some Of Evie'sDahlias Ready For Planting
Evie was able to fill two large pots with potting mix and put three dahlias in each of them, the first planting of the spring for them.  She had started 56 about ten days ago and most are sprouting green shoots and are ready to be put in the ground when we are sure there is no worry of a frost.  They are the delight of our garden, from late July all the way to October. I am enjoying my book, napped, then went out to help Evie who has her work schedule down, working for forty-five minutes, then a fifteen-minute break, then back to work, mostly filling her morning and early afternoon.  By 1:30, it
was dock time and that's where we both spent most of the afternoon, reading and enjoying the warmth of the sun, watching the busy lake traffic.  It's been a while since we have seen such a busy lake, probably last Labor Day.

For dinner, Evie outdid herself.  First, she grilled some eggplant slices, then covered them with a balsamic vinaigrette, serving them at room temperature.  She then made pasta with anchovies, lemon, capers, and lots of garlic, topped with garlic breadcrumbs made with sourdough bread.  We both loved it, a change from a tomato-based pasta.  We watched Hometown and a couple of episodes of Better Call Saul before calling the end to the evening.
