Finally Stopped Snowing!

I woke to a bright white morning although it's still overcast, just a sky not as dark as usual.  We have not seen the sun for at least a week if not longer but today seems brighter, lighter.  Maybe it's just that it's Saturday.

Yesterday it literally snowed most of the day and The Wilderness Lodge, a local cross country ski lodge/restaurant mentioned that it had been snowing there since Tuesday.  It certainly felt that way here at Woodlawn.  For once, I did not venture out, did not fire up the Outback and go out for some unnecessary shopping.  Instead, I  donned my winter togs and went out to clear our parking area and road in the morning around 10:30, later in the afternoon around 4:00, trying to keep up with the snowfall. 

We did get a few things done during the day, as I helped Evie change the sheets on our bed and get some washing done.  That went on and off during most of the morning.  For lunch, I had the leftover sub from Wegman's and while I was out shovelling, Evie took the leftover squash and made me a bisque with coconut milk.  So lunch was delicious and it made us wonder why we don't make this bisque more often. 

I am 400 pages into my Penn Cage novel with a couple hundred more to go.  As I may have mentioned, Greg Iles sets many of his tombs in Natchez, Mississipi, with many of the same characters.  So the afternoon was easy and leisurely with little worry about dinner because Evie had put together a lamb/chicken tagine on Thursday.

We knew that yesterday was the penultimate cocktail hour when darkness would still arrive by 7:00 so we decided to mourn its passing with a Manhattan and an old favorite appetizer, red pepper jelly and cream cheese on crackers, an appetizer that reminds us of our first year at Western Reserve Academy with new friends, the Armontroutsa and DeGrays.  We stretched Mannie time out till 7:00 and were rewarded with a flurry of snowflakes, as darkness reigned.

An "Artistic" March Snowfall

Dinner was heating up in the oven along with some naan, so Evie plated the tagine and we had an amazing tagine, the sweetness and spiciness of the sauce just perfect, a result of the squash, spices, and lamb. Interestingly, I woke up this morning thinking about how good it was. Bizarre.  Fortunately, Evie made enough so we can have it tonight or tomorrow.  We watched the last two episodes of THE KILLING, just in time as they are leaving Netflix on March 11.
