Rainy Day Weekend

6:24
A miserable morning out, gray skies, rain, and cool, 48º.  And it is going to be this way through the weekend but only get colder, so get out your slickers or umbrellas if you want to do something outside like hiking or birding.

Because we got an inch and a half of rain yesterday, we spent most of the day inside.  I did go to yoga during a respite from the rain, another good yin yoga class, followed by coffee.  My days do not change much.  When I got home, Evie was busy finishing up the Shutterfly album which she wanted to send off by the afternoon.  Before lunch, I sat down with her and went through the pages of photographs, arranged around themes and gave it a ringing endorsement.  As usual, the hours and hours of pouring over photographs and then arranging them paid off, a classic reminder of our family and friends and the year of 2016 at the lake.

I had half of half of a Cuban sandwich, leftover from the Viking Club because I was not very hungry and watched another episode of the French series SPIRAL.  It's a cheesy imitation of the CSI's here in the US but I like the characters and it's easy to watch, a new case each series as well as one they have been working on throughout the season, a proven formula for success.  The rest of the afternoon was spent waiting for a pork schnitzel dinner, at least for me.  I did little of note, napped, read and watched TV.  Evie did the same until it was time to start prepping for dinner.  For some reason, I woke up yesterday thinking of pork schnitzel and Evie, too, was thinking of it so that was our dinner. She pounded and  breaded the pork and let it sit for a half hour or so.  When she does this, I always remember one of our Turkish friends, telling Evie to make sure to let the breaded meat sit before frying.  Along with the meat, we had broccoli, sweet potatoes and a salad.  I like my schnitzel with a melting pad of butter on top and a squeeze of lemon.  We watched a disappointing FARGO, not sure where they are going with a cartoon, then another silly Designated Survivor; it seems someone gets knocked off each week.  Keifer Sutherland may be the only who survives, period.  After Vice News, with its depressing look at the politics of the health care bill, I was happy to get back to my book, A DANGEROUS FRIEND, set in Vietnam, in 1965.  Reading it reminds me of Pete, Paul, and Mary's classic song from the 1960's, just as relevant today as back then.

Where Have All the Flowers Gone
Where have all the flowers gone, long time passing?
Where have all the flowers gone, long time ago?
Where have all the flowers gone?
Young girls have picked them, every one
Oh when will they ever learn, oh when will they ever learn?
Where have all the young girls gone, long time passing?
Where have all the young girls gone, long time ago?
Where have all the young girls gone?
Gone for husbands, every one
Oh when will they ever learn, oh when will they ever learn?
Where have all the husbands gone, long time passing?
Where have all the husbands gone, long time ago?
Where have all the husbands gone?
Gone for soldiers, every one
Oh when will they ever learn, oh when will they ever learn?
Where have all the soldiers gone, long time passing?
Where have all the soldiers gone, long time ago?
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Gone to graveyards, every one
Oh when will they ever learn, when will they ever learn?
Where have all the graveyards gone, long time passing?
Where have all the graveyards gone, long time ago?
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Gone to flowers, every one
Oh when will they ever learn, oh when will they ever learn?
