I woke up to a cloudy, cool (48º), and wet morning at 6:00, the ground still damp from yesterday's two inches of rain. The lake is calm despite the storm clouds and no purple martins' songs to speak of. A few solitary ducks have floated by, diving or dunking their heads, looking for food.
Yesterday began on a low note with a call to tell us that no one would be coming to fix our well, our lack of water because the plumbers were out sick. Well, we felt sick as well. That kind of set the tone for the day, as neither one of us had much energy for the rest of the day. I did get out in the morning, to a good yoga class, a good choice because I felt refreshed and in a better mood. When I got home, Evie had driven to Westfield for her annual mammogram and she stopped at Tops for some groceries. Before driving off, she had obviously worked hard at cleaning up the kitchen, at washing the dishes despite the dried food stuck on various utensils and plates. When you don't have water, doing dishes is a problem. Hallelujah, the plumbers arrived at 8:00.
Evie was home by noon, with a number of jugs of bottled water, just in case our drought is prolonged. I had a simple lunch, sardines out of a can with crackers to avoid making a mess in the kitchen. I watched another episode of Spiral, then read and took a nap, trading places with Evie, me on the living room couch, reading and napping, Evie watching TV in our back room.

Heavy Winds And Rain |
Around 2:00, we both became aware of the impending weather forecast, thunderstorms, high winds and possible tornadoes. So we were on edge for the next couple of hours, as the clouds darkened, the rains and winds came, a scary half hour, as dead wood fell from trees. By 4:30, it had cleared up some. By 5:00, the sun had come out briefly, so we opened a bottle of wine and enjoyed the respite from the rain and winds, the lake calm, the sky partly cloudy.

Just Before Dusk: 8:07 pm |
For dinner, despite the lack of water, Evie had put together chicken and black bean enchiladas which is fast becoming one of my favorite meals. Topping a couple of enchiladas with lettuce, salsa, and sour cream is heavenly. We watched the most recent Jason Bourne film. It seems that modern film makers think protracted car chases and fisticuffs are more necessary than a good story. Well, it's not and the film was a bore though we stuck with it to end, much to Evie's dismay. We then watched BILLIONS, with it's ridiculous surprise ending, far fetched and unrealistic. It was, however, set up nicely as we, along with Bobby, could not wait to see Chuck Rhoades and Daddy destroyed. We ended the evening as usual with Vice News, finding out there are other more important things going on in the world then Trump's NEWSPEAK and ignorance, regarding Andrew Jackson's comments on the Civil War.
