Happy To Be Back In Chautauqua |
It's a bright, sun shiny morning, blue skies and lake, Evie and I are up sipping coffee, listening to the pundits discuss the important business of Republican policy, whether Melania Trump's speech last night was plagiarized (big deal), and both our daughter Beth and her daughter Marisa are upstairs, still sleeping off jet lag. It's a almost chilly 56ยบ, the kind of morning I love and yesterday's ridiculous humidity has disappeared.
Yesterday Beth and Marisa were flying into Buffalo at 3:25, so most of the morning was spent vacuuming, cleaning and straightening up a house that I thought had already been vacuumed, cleaned and straightened up. I guess not. And as I mentioned, the humidity was 86%, so even the easy task of vacuuming brought out a sweat. It was a cloudy, overcast morning, the kind that usually means rain but not this summer. It just looks like it's going to rain this summer. Once we got things ship shape, we both jumped in the lake to cool off. I made myself a lunch of leftover rice and spinach topped with two friend eggs, imaginative use of leftovers and quite good. I watched some of the run up to the Republican Convention before we left for the airport at 1:30.

Almost 13! |
Beth and Marisa arrived on time, and it was fun to see the smiles on their faces when they saw us waiting anxiously at the airport. It's great to know that our kids and grandkids love the lake as much as we do. It's the grandchildren's second home, having been here each summer of their lives. Our ride home took the usual hour and a half, with Marisa asking, "Are we there yet?" We were home around 5:00 and Marisa quickly got on her bathing suit and Evie heated up some corn chowder, Marisa's favorite. We had soup on the porch before going out on the dock, and Marisa and Evie swam, and Beth and I sat on the dock and talked. The evening sky was getting increasingly picturesque, the eastern shore of the lake vivid, the sun lightning it. It made me understand once again how lucky we are to have this view everyday of our lives.

A Brief Dinner Al Fresco |
For dinner, Evie had made chicken and black bean burritos, so all she had to do was heat them up and get out the fixings. Because it was such a beautiful evening, we wanted to eat outside. Unfortunately, after 10 minutes, we were so bothered by bugs that we finished eating in the dining room. Where are those bats? We then finished up dinner, did the dishes, relaxed a bit but everyone was tired out by 9:30, so both Beth and Marisa went up to bed, Evie watched some of the Republican Convention, and I read some before falling asleep.
