Buddies, Blue Heron and Mallard |
Yesterday was supposed to be sunny but wasn't. How unusual. So, I went off to yoga at 9:00, enjoyed an 'alignment class,' not sure what that is, with 17 women. Where did all the dudes go? And I arrived a few minutes before class began so I had to settle in the front row when I usually hide in the back. And I recognized only three of the participants which is unusual since I am probably the only regular. I showed some discipline after class, did not stop for coffee since I went the day before, even picked up a carton of free range eggs.
When I got home, Evie had been busy, making cauliflower soup, and had all the trash from the house sitting out on the porch, obviously a suggestion that today was Trash Day. I got it. So I filled the car with the week's trash and drove off to the Transfer Station. Afterwards, we were both disappointed in the weather although neither of us, especially me, felt like doing much. And after all, it was Saturday, the weekend, a time to rest from our busy week. Evie, however, wanted to get some exercise, so she drove off to Lakewood, and I stayed home bored with myself, as reading and watching some TV did not interest me.
Around 3:30, Evie returned and it cleared up some, so most of our neighbors were out working in their yards. Evie, despite having just walked on a treadmill, got the bright idea that our lawn needed cutting and it was going to rain that night, so she powered up the mower and took off. Feeling guilty, like a sloth, I got up off my couch, fired up the other lawn mower, and between the two of us, we got two yards cut. I must say they needed it and once we were done, they looked 'sharp,' ready for last night's rain.
We both might have preferred to stay home, snuggle under a blanket, cosy in our sweats and watch junk TV. However, we needed to get out in the world, so we drove to Celeron, to a restaurant at the south end of the lake, near the inlet to the Chadakoin River, called The Main Landing. Over the past few years, it has had a couple of owners, so it's a restaurant that has struggled to stay afloat. We were there a couple of years ago, but there's a new owner again. We walked in and the bar was empty, the restaurant half full. We were not sure if we were going to stay but we struck up a conversation with the bartender, Tracy, her first night on the job although she's been waitressing we assume for years. Then, a local stopped in, Gary Peterson, and we had a good time talking with him. He is a former Jamestown High School teacher, football coach and bartender, retired obviously, and we had mutual friends. We ended up deciding to stay, had wings for an appetizer, then ordered sandwiches and fries for dinner. Unfortunately, as we found out from Tracy, the cook was awol so the owner had to work in the kitchen. As a result, we had a long wait, with Tracy checking every five minutes to see if our sandwiches were ready. It was annoying but we liked talking with Tracy so we persevered. The food was fine, the restaurant slowly got crowded, so we would come back, mostly to see Tracy again.

Today is pot roast day; we knew it was supposed to rain much of the day, so Evie thought it would be a perfect afternoon for enjoying the aroma of a pot roast and veggies in the oven. I cannot wait.
