We Got Snow (And Zero Degree Temperatures)

8:00

8:00
Quite a morning, with howling winds, gusts of snow moving across the lake, temperature hovering around zero, and six to eight inches of snow overnight.  And best of all,  the sun keeps peaking through the clouds, lighting parts of the lake, as a single tent sits out in the middle of the lake, lonely and windblown.

Yesterday was the coldest day of winter, temperatures in single digits much of the day.  We both were somewhat reluctant to venture out into the cold but I finally decided to stick with my routine and drove off to Eight Limbs for a small, but good class, with an emphasis on hamstrings.  After class, I drove home carefully, the roads still snow covered though it was not snowing.  Evie, too, did not much feel like going to the gym, not having slept well but sucked it up and drove off for her routine at the gym.  We are both becoming fanatical about our morning and afternoon routines, not wanting to miss one because it might start a slide back to laziness.  I made a couple of ham sandwiches (yes, we have enough ham left over from Thursday night's dinner for two or three more meals and a ham and split pea soup).  And I heated up Evie's latest soup, an Indian inspired cauliflower soup, so I was a happy boy, watching some junk TV.

Our afternoons don't vary much, especially when it's so cold out, so we cosied up, on our couches, either reading or watching TV.  It felt like a long afternoon, waiting for dinner time, when we were going to pick up our neighbors, Jim and Barb Fox, and go to dinner at Steeners Irish Pub in Greenhurst.  They had just come up for the weekend from Cleveland Heights.  Our drive was easy, and we found a parking space right in front of the Pub, which appeared to be crowded.  It was, with lots of people standing around the bar, drinking beer but there were a couple empty tables so we quickly grabbed one.  We were tempted by their Valentines Special, filet, lobster tail, salad and dessert but opted for fish fries for Evie and the Foxes, and I got the pot roast tacos, on pita bread, stuffed with the pot roast, coleslaw and fries, filling and good  but not great.  We of course had a couple of their drafts, had a great time catching up and talking about their retirement to the lake in a couple of years.  They are already planning with great relish.

We left about 8:30 to blizzard like conditions.  It was the longest seven mile drive of our lives, the road difficult to see because of the heavy snow, few cars in either direction, the road hard to see.  I took my time, obviously, and a 15 minute drive took a half hour.  All of us were excited and happy to get home, cozy and warm in our houses, leaving the blizzard outside to wreak its havoc on the homes and natural world.  It was beautiful outside but much nicer inside.  We watched another episode of American Crime, so good, then some Idol before going up to bed around 11:00.
