When 1º Means Warming Up!

7:15
8:05
It's almost 7:45 and still 1º outside, as I ponder the colorful morning sky, blue with streaks of white, pink streaks above the skyline, two lonely fishermen, in the middle of the lake, braving the cold. NPR suggests things are getting back to normal but zero degrees ain't normal, at least as I remember. But then, our last four years here at the lake have been termed 'not normal' because of the lack of below zero weather and lack of snow.  I sure hope the past week is not the 'new normal.' By the way, we had almost no snow yesterday though the Buffalo area got up to three feet in some areas; we were fortunate.
A Plump Black Capped Chickadee Keeping Warm In Our Rhododendrons
Because of the arctic like temperatures yesterday, neither one of us ventured out side for more than a few minutes.  I went out early morning, just to see what it felt like in -10 degrees...cold, bitterly so, more so with the wind.  I then went out to check the mail around noon, again around 4:00 and it was still cold, my facing burning after a few minutes of walking.  And no mail.  That's about it for the day.
Fishing This Morning At Dawn, in Zero Degree Temperatures
Fortunately, Evie's starting to feel better but we still kept a low profile. We read, watched TV, made tea, anything to vary our routine of life 'inside,' something we are not used to.  Both of us long to get outside, to walk, hike, snow shoe, or cross country ski but it was not smart to be out yesterday.  We even had leftover Santa Fe chicken for dinner, so we did not have to make anything.
Finding That Sweet Spot At Dusk, Yesterday, -2 Degrees
In the evening, we watched a couple of more episodes of Orange Is The New Black, one to go.  It's amazing how the writers manipulate us, demanding we sympathize with the inmates, their lives, their pasts, even though they can be violent, crude, and vindictive, still human.  We like the series more and more. And we have begun watching an old new series called Justified, about a maligned deputy sheriff who is sent back to Lexington, Kentucky, the area he's grown up.  He's been exiled to the boondocks, so to speak,  for having shot too many bad guys in Miami, though 'justified.'  You can tell where this series is going.  And famous crime writer Elmore Leonard was one of the producers as well as writers until his death this past year.

I hope to start winter yoga this morning at 10:00, braving the weather, a tough guy, no.
