Frosted Trees at 7:00 AM

Up at 6:30 to a winter wonderland; it feels, for some reason, like the first snow of the year though it isn't.  All the trees, their branches, the bushes, have a frosting of snow, a lovely way to wake up, as the day commences, the light brightens, and I am on my second cup of coffee.

We decided to skip our workouts yesterday and enjoy the outdoors, even though my tax person couldn't believe we were going out for a walk in the cold, a typical comment from almost anyone in this area.  Most seem to hate the cold, endure the snow, the weather...not us.  We decided to walk the woods above Warner Bay and part of Long Point Park as well.  It was a great walk, the snow crunchy, at times hard to walk because of the ruts, a result of snow mobiles and cross country ski tracks.  We walked up to the entrance to Warner Bay, crossed over Rt. 430, and followed some of the snow mobile trails, which we did not know were there.  We did not see any at this time of day, but the trails looked well used from the weekend.  This area would also be good for cross country skiing because it's so flat and wide, no steep hills, at least as far as we could see.  We walked almost four miles, about an hour and a half, and felt righteous when we returned home.  It was great to be outside and though it was in low 30's, it seemed colder than other days because of the dampness in the air.

Not much going on in the afternoon, some washing for Evie, changing our bed, turning the mattress, that kind of thing, some reading, some TV.  I did walk our yard as we had heard some noise outside our back yard window the previous evening.  It was obviously deer, as some of our bushes were eaten.  I guess we are going to have to be more active with protecting or plants.  They don't like rhododendrons, fortunately, but do seem to like oak leaf hydrangeas and laurel.  Later afternoon,  Evie put together a marinara sauce with mushrooms for dinner.  She pulled the fresh noodles that she had frozen out of the freezer but we must have done something wrong because they stayed in clumps when we cooked them.  So, we got out some dry pasta, cooked it up and had it for dinner with a salad.

We hope to go for a walk this morning, then around 3:30, we are driving into Painesville, Ohio and spend the night with our good friend, Vi Buck.  Tomorrow, we drive to Athens, Ohio, home of Ohio University for a locker room dedication and a basketball game, then dinner with teammates from the 1964 MAC champs.
