Dawn: 7:44 |
We are back at the lake for a few days, always good to get home and sleep in your own bed, no matter where you have been, how much fun you have had. The lake's one large piece of gray slate this morning, the sky gray with a touch of light. No where matches waking to this view, the changing colors of lake and sky. How lucky we are to live here, with this view.
We arrived home around 2:00, 435 miles, a few minutes over seven hours, the time rarely changes, the mileage never. It was an easy ride, especially beautiful through the Catskills, though the trees are just beginning to bud, thus the colors had a hint of red to match the light purple of the leafless trees, Interestingly, as we got closer to Chautauqua, the pale rose turned to light green, as some trees on the mountains around Olean and Kinzua Dam had leaves.

We had a great three days in Darien, fun with the kids and Beth and Rami, great meals, and shopping, of course. The kids are all doing well, happy and fun to be with. We miss them already. As you can see above, Lettie's dog, Bella, was the center of the families attention.

We were able to unpack quickly, as we had packed lightly, and were at loose ends most of the afternoon, with nothing that had to be done, with no grandchildren to enjoy. I guess we will have to wait until Friday. Around 5:00, Marisa called, just to say hi, and played her violin for Evie from her bedroom, via Face Time. She was in a rare mood, bored and silly, I think.
Evie took some meat balls out of the freezer and we combined them with a pasta sauce for dinner, easy but good. We watched Mad Men, still disappointing (maybe we expected too much), then went to bed early for us, by 10:00. I finished Eugenides THE MARRIAGE PLOT, which I really liked. It had me interested, right from the start.
Just a note, off to the east, we can either see snow or sleet slanting down on to the lake. Ah, Chautauqua weather.
