Dinner with Bergens at Jim and Barb Fox's home

Up late again, 7:45, Evie up earlier, coffee made, NPR on, it looks like a great day, with the sun's blinding reflection on the lake, making it impossible to sit in my usual morning chair.  We are trying to decide where to walk/hike this morning, as it's so nice out.  And it's cold, 22 degrees, the way it should be this time of year.  The trails, which were muddy yesterday, should be frozen this morning.  We missed the Snow Flake Festival yesterday at the Audubon, unfortunately, because of yoga and shopping.  Once we got home, we didn't much feel like going out again though I did take a late afternoon walk through our woods, with lots of sun and warming sun.

Chautauqua Creek, Westfield

Last night, we went to our neighbor's home, Barb and Jim Fox, for a lovely evening.  There house, like ours, burned down about 12 years ago, so inside, it's much newer than the older cottage look of many dwellings here on the lake.  It's cosy, with a great ktichen, opening onto the dining room and living room, an amazing lake view, with dark  paneled wood walls, which gives it a cottage feel, and quite different from our house, with it's buff walls.  And they have a great fireplace, warming and fun to look at.  The Bergen's, Betsy and Joe, also neighbors, both lawyers in Buffalo, also came, so we had a great evening, trying to dissect the incestuous relationships of the neighbor hood over the past 50 years, talking about films, and just  laughing and enjoying the evening and the food, a great seafood casserole, salad and foccacia.  For dessert, Joe and Betsy made an Apple Bourbon Bunt cake with their favorite ice cream, Perry's Bittersweet Sinphony.  Yum.   It's nice to get to know our neighbors better now that we(retired) and they(winter) have more time.
