7:54 |
It's 8:25 and I am sitting in my living room listening to a Bill Simmons podcast on a chilly 28º morning. I decided to skip yoga this morning and take a morning off. And I just read a depressing article in the New York Times entitled 'The End of Snow,' an example of 'cosmic pessimism.' The author asks the question 'Will my grandkids know what snow is.' I did get in a 35-minute paddle later than usual because I waited until Evie got up.

Mallards |
Yesterday began with a paddle in the rain and it continued until I returned home. Not a good way to start the the new year. We had no big plans for the day, just hanging out, watching some TV or reading, and maybe taking a nap and that's the way the day worked until neighbors invited us for drinks, appetizers, and games at 5:00.

Long Point Hikers |
We did have a good morning of accomplishments if you call my making a pot of kuru fasulye (white beans stew) while Evie put together both her veggie soup and the makings for tonight's dinner of chicken and biscuits. It felt good to be in the kitchen, getting things done, and making some of our favorites for the rest of the week. Once were we done, we also cleaned out both freezers, organizing them so we had some idea what was in them and we could easily find it. Makes sense!

A Dusting Of White |
Lunch was the leftover pasta and meatballs from a previous dinner and I watched another episode of The Wire because it was a Monday, right. We had our usual afternoon of TV, napping and TV but also got some fresh air by walking up the hill and back, an easy 25-minute jaunt that allowed us to gain some mojo.

Neighbors |
We went over to our neighbor Joe's house at 5:15. Everyone brought both libations and an appetizer so we had more than enough to eat and drink. We talked and enjoyed the food and drinks for maybe an hour and the nine of us sat down at the dining room table to play a game called Farkle, new to us. It's a dice game and lots of fun, especially if you have a large group of people. We played until 9:00 when to Evie's surprise, she won, defeating both Bud and Jim, who seemed to have won. It was a fun and wild night, great to have fun neighbors. We were home by 9:30, ready for bed, and watched some football.
