It's 6:36 and I am enjoying a coffee and juice at Hampton's breakfast bar, looking out over the Gulf. I was up before 6:00, in time to walk the beach and catch the sunrise at 6:15 with two other people. It does not seem like the same sun that rises over Chautauqua Lake each morning. It looks like another fine day, highs in the mid-'70s.
Tuesday was a perfect day for the beach, lots of sun and a light breeze so that we were never too warm. I was up later than usual, at 7:20, missing the sunrise but we were in no hurry to get to the beach so we relaxed in our room with coffees while I finished up the blog and Evie picked out the photographs. We decided we would spend the day relaxing, no hurry, no shopping, just doing what we wanted. So around 9:45, we went down and enjoyed some breakfast before getting our lawn chairs out of the car and walking down to the beach. The Gulf has only one high and one low tide each day and they are hardly noticeable, unlike the Atlantic coast. We stayed on the beach until 1:00, taking a couple of walks and I seemed to be the only one on the beach that went for a swim. The water was cold, refreshing, but not as cold as the last swim at Chautauqua Lake. It was a calm day so I did not get in anybody surfing, alas, just cooling off.

We had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch, along with some fruit from the breakfast bar. It felt good to relax and read in my bed, so I napped and Evie went down to the beach. I joined her around 2:30 and the wind had picked up some, so we had to turn our chairs so the wind was at our back. We took a couple more walks before going upstairs for a highball or two on our deck, as we watched the sunset at 5:00, way too early for us. It was a beautiful evening on the Gulf and we had a hard time deciding where to go out to dinner. We finally decided on The Flying Harpoons Two because the bartenders at The Gulf recommended it and we liked the photograph of the bar. It was also only five minutes away. We pulled into the practically empty lot, walked upstairs because the downstairs was closed, and walked into a cool bar, with a pool table and maybe eight people.

We found two seats at the bar, ordered our Yuenglings and were happy. We struck up a conversation with a guy who travels extensively for his business and lived in Montana but now in Tarpon Springs, Florida. When we tell someone where we are from, they have no idea where it is. He was different because he used to be a fishing guide in the area, knew the lake, Cattaraugus County and a bar called Strohs in the Buffalo area. We chatted over our dinner and had to laugh when he mentioned his parents were doing well and were 76 and 77. In other words, he could have been our son.

Bar Hopping |
Evie and I shared a shrimp basket and a bowl of gumbo, just enough for the two of us. We virtually closed up the place, drove home, and discovered it was only 7:00. Crazy. Because it gets dark so early, we ended up going out to eat early and that's why we were home by 7:00. We watched TV and read until about 9:30 and were tired enough to turn off the light and go to sleep, the end of another good day.
