I have been up since 6:00, drinking my coffee and reading the NYTimes in the dark until recently when colors appeared, some blue sky, dark cloud, and orange cream above the shoreline. It's another chilly morning, 47º out, and will stay in the 50's most of the day. We also received some light rain at 6:00, again just now but not for long. It's 7:30 now and just as I was about to kayak, it started to rain and the wind seemed to pick up. Rats. Now it's 8:20 and I did get out for a brief, twenty minute paddle, paddling the waves as I kayaked north, riding them home as I kayaked south.

Sunday was windy with lots of sun, a bit of drizzle, a typical fall day here at the lake. Because of the wind, I did not get out on the lake for a paddle, alas, although the lake calmed down later in the day and I should have gone out. After coffee and the blog, it was nice enough out to consider a walk, so we put on a couple of layers because of the 49º temperature and drove to the Chautauqua Institution. We had a leisurely walk along the streets, looking at the porches until our floor installer called to say he wanted to stop by and drop off the hickory for our floor. We finished our walk and arrived home at noon. He came at 12:30, and I helped bring in our flooring and now both our kitchen and hallway are stacked with wood until Wednesday when he will begin the installation, finally.

We were hungry from our Sunday brunch, so Evie fried up some Jimmy Dean sausage and a couple of eggs and we watched CBS Sunday Morning while enjoying our big breakfast. We had not watched it in a while so it was fun to get back in our fall and winter routine of a big Sunday breakfast and a show. We are beginning to realize we are not much good in the afternoon, meaning we have lost our mojo and all we want to do is relax which we did, either watching some football, reading or napping. Around 3:00, Evie put together our dinner by searing some pork ribs, adding them to sauerkraut and tomatoes, and letting them slow bake in the oven for a couple of hours.
At 4:00, we watched the Browns play poorly, giving away fumbles and interceptions, and losing to Arizona. It was not fun to watch and we skipped the fourth quarter. We had a great dinner at 6:30 and Evie made a small salad and mashed potatoes to go along with the pork and sauerkraut. This has to be one of my favorite dinners. We watched the last two episodes of Maid and have mixed emotions. It painted a depressing picture of an abused young single mother's struggles, no doubt accurate but neither of us was taken by her, the mother, who seemed to create many of the problems by refusing help. And we quickly tired of the many close-ups of her face, usually accompanied by music, as she mused on her life. It did not need ten episodes to tell her story. We ended the night with The Great British Baking Show, always fun.
