It's just 7:00 and I have been up for an hour, watching the morning sky turn pink before the sun rose at 6:55. I was able to walk out on our front yard for the first time in weeks, as the snow has melted. Nothing like the warmth of the winter sun. Also, I spotted a Canadian Goose for the first time, standing alone on the ice, honking. Spring is coming.

Monday was a good beginning to the week, warming temperatures after a morning in the teens and a busy morning, and a great hike. Neither of us was in a hurry for a hike, hoping to wait till late morning when the temperature was in the 30's. So after the blog and breakfast, Evie put together a pot of chili, following a new recipe from the Smitten Kitchen although it seemed to be typical of most chilis, meat, beans, tomato sauce, and spices. Once it was ready to simmer, Evie put it in the oven under low heat, and we put on our hiking or snowshoe gear and drove over to Long Point State Park. Evie wanted to get in a long walk so we walked both the woods, then out to Long Point and back to our car, at the end of the Black Locust Trail. We were out close to an hour and a half and walked over three miles, following a couple of the fat bike trails for a change.

Final Snowshoe Of The Year? |
We did not get home till 1:00, both famished so we heated up the pot of soup and I had peanut butter and jelly sandwich, leftover from a hike on Sunday. I started a new series on Netflix from Turkey called Winter Sun. I am not sure if I will stick with it but it is fun to see modern Turkey. After lunch, I took another good nap, waking, wondering if it was morning or afternoon. At 3:00, we drove over to our friend Linda's house. She fell and broke her wrist on Friday so we had not been able to see her and Ron over the weekend. Fortunately, she will be seeing a surgeon this morning and we hope things will move quickly. We stayed for an hour and then headed home on a warm afternoon.

Ice Fishing Among The Puddles |
We did not have much worry about dinner but we wanted cornbread to go along with the chili, so Evie put together Trader Joe's cornbread and let it bake as we enjoyed a happy hour. By 6:30, we were enjoying our chili, cornbread, and a salad and watching the 'breaking news' on CNN, as the CDC has outlined expectations for those who have been vaccinated. We can now see our grandchildren, even give them a hug. We can now think about being on the road again,. We watched the final two episodes of Behind Her Eyes on Netflix. It had us hooked at times but the ending was so absurd that all we could do is laugh as it was so improbable. We ended the night with two episodes of Home Town and a Jeopardy. I am enjoying my book, Iron Lake by William Kent Krueger.
