A quiet lake morning, what else these months. A few inches of snow fell overnight, dusting the car and it's a chilly 23º day. Unlike our family in Dallas, we have heat, water, and electricity, three things we often take for granted until we lose them. I do want to give a shout-out to Texas's Senator Ted Cruz whose brief vacation to Mexico and lies explaining it became a target for all kinds of memes, keeping both of us amused much of the day.

Thursday was hard to remember like most days past. Did we do anything different from the previous days? Probably not. We knew we had dinner made, the leftover lemon chicken but that left one more question to be answered...where to cross country ski? We decided on Webb's Trail because Evie wanted to ski rather than snowshoe and Webb's is basically a straight shot out and back through the woods. We were in no hurry so I was able to get in a half-hour of Yoga With Adrienne. It always feels good to get back on the mat both physically and psychologically.

We did not leave until 11:00 and when we arrived at the parking lot, it was busy with snowmobile trailers and we were worried the trail would be busy with snowmobiles. Fortunately, most of them headed north and east so that only a couple passed us on our way out and back, basically a two-mile jaunt. It was, as always, good to be out on a snowy, winter day, gliding through the woods. On the way home, we stopped at the Lighthouse because I had a hankering for burgers for dinner. We picked up a pound of ground chuck, some buns, and a sub sandwich for my lunch.
I finished off the vegetable soup for lunch with half of sub and Evie had already made use of the leftover beef bourguignon for another soup to last through the weekend. I wonder what I would do without a soup for lunch as it becomes de riguer. After lunch, I returned to my new book after a couple of starts, Rumaan Alam's Leave The World Behind, a cozy little disaster novel. I fell asleep reading, the best, woke, and read some more until 3:00 when I wanted to do something different, like get a few things done. So Evie quickly made up a list for Wegman's and I was off shopping, stopping at the bank to deposit a check, at the gas station to fill up, and Wegman's to pick up groceries which will last us until early next week. I also stopped at the Rod N Gun, to pick up my membership card and walked through it to see how they were handling Covid. The bar had tables between sets of two stools so that patrons were safely distanced. By 4:00, quite a few customers were already enjoying a libation. I did not linger and was home by 4:30. It felt good to do something other than sitting on my couch reading, watching the lake, and sky darken.
We relaxed with a spritzer until 6:30, waiting until we got hungry. Evie then fried up our burgers and heated up the Bob Evans Man N Cheese as a side and we had dinner. We watched two episodes of a new series on Apple TV called Losing Alice, an Israeli thriller. We ended the night, however, on a high note rewatching East Side Sushi, a feel-good film about a single Hispanic Mom who wants to become a sushi chef.
