Breakfasting

Breakfast Is Over
On Our Way Home
It's a bright sunny morning, still a cool 45º, with an increasingly brisk wind.  I did get in a paddle for forty-five minutes, across to Long Point, back to Sandy Bottom, and home into the wind.  I saw nothing worth photographing, just a herd of turkey vultures, a few Canadian geese.

Kayak Morning
Yesterday was really a day of rest for us.  Other than a kayak morning, we did little until late afternoon when our laziness became too much and Evie, especially, had to get back to weeding in her garden.  After breakfast we decided to drive to Panama, to walk on a section of the Westside Trail.  It's about a twenty-minute drive, and we have always liked this trail because much of it is through dark, pine forests.  We were out for only a short hike, but it was still worth the drive out.

Green And Sunlight
When we returned home, Evie plopped the bacon in the pan and when it was done, she fried a couple of eggs and toasted a bagel and we had breakfast in front of the TV watching CBS Sunday Mornings take on the protests, literally covering most major cities in the US.  We watched it until we were done with breakfast.  Evie decided it was too nice to stay inside and went out to the side yard, protected from the wind, and read and played Words With Friends for a part of the afternoon and spent quite a bit of time in the garden.  I stayed inside, read some, fell sleep, then joined her until she went in and put together our dinner, tas kebab, literally stew meat, with onions, tomato paste, and Turkish spices, simple but delicious.  Once the meat was seared, the rest of the ingredients added, she left it to simmer for a couple of hours in a low heat oven.  I stayed outside and read until it was time for a glass of wine but Evie, as I mentioned earlier, could not resist working in the garden.  I even joined her briefly and did some trimming of bushes and chopping down of unwanted small weed-like trees.

Dinner was practically made once the tas kebab was done.  I love having mashed potatoes with this dish, so Evie boiled then mashed them, braised some Brussel sprouts, and made a salad.  It was a great dinner.  We channel surfed, watching how various channels covered the depressing demonstrations, the rioting, and the analysis of responsibility.  After a half-hour, the sameness got to us, so we switched to another episode of Hometown, then Better Call Saul before bed.

For some reason, yesterday both of us felt strongly the wish to get back to our old life, to going to restaurants, talking with friends, enjoying an outing to our clubs.  It's been only a couple of months and yet it may be much longer before we can once again feel comfortable going out to dinner with friends.
