Thunderstorms Overnight, An Inch Of Rain

First Crusie Of Spring
A cloudy morning, more rain and thunderstorms expected later in the day.  We needed it, however, and it's actually nice to have some rain, a partly cloudy sky and a 60º morning.  Not that I'm tired of beautiful sunny, blue sky days, just that I like change.  And as I started writing this, the sun briefly broke through the gray sky.

6:45
We knew yesterday would be sunny and warm, that today would be cloudy with rain so we were determined to get things done in our yard.  I began the day with an early hour paddle, home by 8:10, in time to finish the blog, have some breakfast and be on my way to yoga by 9:30.  A good class although there were only six of us.  Paul and I  had a guys corner, as we a third of the class; he's a bike enthusiast, rides every Tuesday evening with others from Hollyloft Bike Shop.  He bikes 27 miles, and they had over 90 riders meet at 6:00, with four different groups depending on skill and miles to ride.  It sounds like fun if only the rides were flat.

I was home by 11:30 and Evie was already out in the yard, working in her garden, a weed fest at the moment.  It was already warm but Evie did not seem to mind, as she had our Sonos speaker playing music in the yard.  Being careful of her back, she used a chaise lounge pad so she could lay down and stretch out every ten minutes or so.  I helped until I had lunch, by starting to move things out of the garage to the yard, gassing up the lawn mowers.  Evie also wanted our hydrangea tree trimmed, so I got out a ladder and she held it as I trimmed it, hoping to give it some shape and grow fuller.  We have learned that ladders are the #1 cause of accidents for men over sixty.

Evie continued her work while I went in and had lunch, the last of the leftover chicken tikki masala.  I  finished up a Jack Reacher, finished my book, NEED TO KNOW, with a great twist at the end.  I liked it.  I have had trouble napping lately; maybe like an infant, I have grown out of it.  Anyways, around 3:00, Evie had enough of gardening and we both went out on the dock to enjoy some sunshine, despite the breeze.  Our garden and yard were starting to look good except for the grass, which was peppered with dandelions and rough cut grass.  So we fired up the mower for the first time this year and forty-five minutes later we had a beautiful field of spring green, nothing like it.  We made sure to just top the lawn, keeping it higher than usual.

About 5:30, the wind seemed to die down, so we packed up a couple of beers, some pretzels, and jumped in our boat and took a nice leisurely cruise over to Bemus Point, along Lakeside Drive, and home.  We were one of probably four boats on the lake.  We did applaud a Dad and his sons, as they jumped in the lake for a dip, a couple of tough kids.  On the way back, the wind picked up, as usual, but we had no trouble docking the boat. While I put on the cover, Evie got on her bathing suit, hoping to take a dip but it was too cold even for her.  Maybe this weekend.

While we were boating, potatoes were baking in the oven.  When we returned, Evie added the leftover pork chops from Monday night's dinner, made a salad and we were ready to sit in front of the TV until 10:30 or 11:00.  We watched another episode of KEEPING FAITH reluctantly and because we are three episodes in, we will stick with it.  Colbert is always a panacea for our anxiety over the world of Trump's politics.  We go up to bed laughing until the morning news and tweets.
