White Is Back

7:45

7:57
I was awake at 5:45, listening to the wind howl outside our bedroom window.  We went to bed listening to it howl as well.  Yesterday's dire weather report, however, was deeply exaggerated as the 5-8 inches of snow ended up being 1-2, barely covering the ground.  It is much colder today, admittedly, 24º at the moment and we may get another inch of snow during the day, but we avoided the big storm that's hitting Maine.  At the moment, the snow machine just started up and lovely, soft flakes fill our living room window.  Love 'real winter.'

For most of yesterday, we had to put up with rain, then freezing rain later in the day, then light snow around 7:30 and overnight.  It did not get windy until the evening when we started worrying about branches falling, our electricity going off.  It did not happen.  Yesterday morning, we wanted to get outside, to do something physical but the weather never cooperated.  We thought it would be icy walking the CI and the snow had melted for the most part so there would be no skiing or snow shoeing.  So we drove to Tops in Mayville to pick up a few groceries for dinner and then stopped at Linda and Ron's and did a quick run through the roughed out second floor of their new home on Lighthouse Point.  It's going to be really neat.

We arrived home around 12:30 and Evie quickly got busy in the kitchen, putting together our big breakfast so we could enjoy it while watching Saturday night's SNL.  It did not disappoint, especially Melissa McCarthy playing Trump's White House Press Secretary.  It's almost too good, too funny, yet depressing as well, a curious combination.  And that was it for the rest of the day, at least for me. I read, napped and watched  more day TV than usual, finishing a Wallander than watching Jordan Speith win at Pebble Beach.  Evie, however, found her mojo and worked upstairs for a good hour or more as I relaxed on a couch.

Yesterday Afternoon's Big Melt
I was excited about dinner as we were trying to duplicate Giordano's deep dish pizza from Chicago. Evie had put together the pizza dough four days ago, so it was at its prime when she pulled it out around 5:00.  Earlier, she had sauteed spinach and mushrooms, so that was the filling for the deep dish. The top layer was pizza sauce and cheese and we baked it for close to 40 minutes.  It was decent not great, however,  and as Evie said, 'It tasted just like stuffed shells but was more work."  We spent the evening watching five hours of TV, the first two, the Grammy's Red Carpet, the next three, the Grammy's themselves.  It was not our favorite Grammy, as few of the acts really grabbed us.  We both like blues singer Gary Clark, Jr. the most, Lady Gaga next.  I was happy to head up to bed around 10:30, a bit early but I don't think I missed much.

  2. Thanks for the kind words, Dave. I think both you and your life will love the area, especially all the outdoor activities. Drop me a note when you relocate to the area. Take care, TD
