Nick's Home, A Happy Mom |
|
Happy Apple Store Shoppers |
It's 7:20 and not a creature is stirring. I don't expect anyone up for another hour or more. Oops...Mary's up. Even Tom is taking the day off so he can enjoy a sleep in. It's cloudy out and cool although it should clear up later this morning, a good day to go to City Market in Kansas City. We are just hoping it's open on a Wednesday.

Morning Sky On Our Walk |
|
A Red Maple |
Yesterday we got to spend the day with Nick, since he had returned from college Monday night late. He did not get up till late morning of course, so Evie and I were able to take a nice walk around the neighborhood, on their paths that wind behind many of the houses and through the woods, crossing a couple of streams. By the time we got back, it had warmed up some and looked like a nice day. Nick was up, so we spent the morning talking with him about his college experience. He seems even more confident and mature after only a couple of months of college. I suppose that's what happens to most kids once they get off on their own and are mostly responsible for themselves for the first time.
Nick wanted to go up to his old high school to say hi to his teachers and friends, so after a lunch of eggs and potato pancakes, Evie and I drove off to the shopping mall/shopping center to shop for an hour or two. We spent some time ogling the products at Bed, Bath, And Beyond, buying nothing before we split and I went to Dick's (bought nothing) and Evie went to T. J. Maxx's, where she bought another pan, this time a huge paella pan since we make paella all the time (never). Hey, whatever floats your boat.

Dinner At Houstons |
We got home just as Marlena returned from school, happy as a clam because her teachers had just emailed her parents to say she had just gotten 100's on both her math and social studies tests which she had been studying for the last couple of days. We then hung out with Nick and Marlena, watched some TV, took showers and got dressed up some since we were going out to dinner to a hot new barbecue place called Q 39. We left just before 6:00 called the restaurant to see if they take reservations, they don't and found out there would be an hour and a half wait. We decided to drive there anyways and check it out for ourselves.

Nick And His Granny |
Nick and Evie went inside to check and found out the wait would be two hours. So, we changed our plans and since we were near Country Club Plaza, we called Houston's, an old stand by, and they could seat the six of us immediately. So we had a great dinner at Houston's, Nick a rack of ribs, Mary trout, me a Hawaiian ribeye and Tom and Evie split a big salad and a rack of ribs. It was a good choice, great ambiance, and a choice round table.

A Quiet, Well Lit Apple Store |
After we ate, I made the mistake of asking if the Apple Store was still open. Tommy immediately got excited because they had opened a new store. So the six of us walked literally across the street and up 50 yards to the store, busy and well lit, the only one seemingly open. I thought we were just browsing but not Tom, who bought the new Mac Book Pro computer for work, the newest iteration of a lap top. It is lighter than my new Mac Air, faster, with all the new bells and whistles. He could not wait to get home and get it up and running.
On the way home, Mary mentioned that we were passing a Mickey D's and that a hot fudge sundae might sound good. So we all got sundaes or dipped cones and quickly drove home to enjoy them. And we got home just in time to watch the beginning of the Kansas/Georgia game. Nick and Tom are big fans so that was our TV watching for the rest of the night. About 10:30, Nick went off with some buddies and the rest of us except Tom went up to bed.
