I woke up to light rain, dark skies, an a 46º morning. Can autumn be far behind, then winter? A few streaks of light hover above the Bemus shoreline, as the sun tries to break through the darkening sky. It looks like a rainy day, something we need, have had for quite awhile. Let's see how accurate the weatherman is?
Yesterday was a strange day, some sun then, inexplicably, some showers for 15-20 minutes, then more sunshine. I was up and out by 9:30, to Bemus, to return a book to the library and get a coffee at Wired, owned by our new friend, Lisa. I chatted with her briefly, about our common interest, yoga, then I drove off to the Lighthouse, to look for some Pepperidge Farm Party Rye, which Evie needs to make Hanky Pankies. Unfortunately, no one seems to have them. I bought a chicken salad sub for lunch and drove through the Chautauqua Institution grounds to pick up a calendar of events and avoid the road work.
When I got home, Evie and I worked in the yard for an hour, trimming the privets, the red twig dogwoods, filling another barrel with twigs. Our yard is starting to look really sharp, something the rain will only improve. I love the green of spring, its richness and variation, which disappears as summer comes and wanes. I then had my chicken salad sandwich, split it with Evie, and watched Game of Thrones, did some reading and took a nap. Evie was ready to relax as well, having worked in the yard, house and cooking up ziti sauces for the boys, so we did not get much done the rest of the day.

Late Afternoon |
Around 4:00, I became antsy, so unlike me, and drove off to the gravel pit to pick up another five bushels of #2 stones and some top soil. I spread the stones on the wet spots on our driveway and road and saved the top soil for our compost pile

Dinner was easy, thank goodness, because neither of us had much mojo, just wanted to go to bed. Evie heated up the leftover spaghetti, made a salad, and we settled down comfortably on our couches and watched a interesting and well made film about the first rap group NWA (Niggers With Attitudes) called STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON. It was passed over as a nominee for best film which was joke, considering some of the films that made the list. But the subject matter, blacks, rap music, street hoods most likely did not appeal to the judges, many who I am sure, never viewed the film. We liked it and were moved by the sad ending, Eazy-E's death from AIDS. It has the vibe of gangster rap and the police brutality scenes which seemed so common back in the 1980's and 1990's, are hard to watch. With all the shootings of black youths today and the Black Lives Matters movement, we wonder if things have changed much.
