6:40 |
It's almost 6:50 and I am sitting in our daughter Jill's living room, watching CNN for the first time in a week, with their dog, Coco, snuggled up against my leg. Dogs like me. No free coffee at Bert's, no sunrise on the beach, but it's still pretty nice, free Bissell coffee, an a brief, hectic morning as our granddaughters get ready for school. I remember those hurried, frenetic days of getting our kids ready for school on time.

The Endless Interstate 95 |

Light And Rain At The End Of Day |
Not a lot I can say about yesterday's drive from Folly Beach to Bristow, Virginia, other than it was a long haul up Interstate #95, with traffic heavy on and off but nothing like it is on a Spring Break weekend when we might come to a complete stop for no reason other than heavy traffic. We had mostly nice weather until we got into Virginia, the last leg, when it rained on and off most of the way to Jill's. In fact, the last twenty miles, when we were off of #95, on #234, was the most hectic, rain, three lanes of traffic, stores and traffic lights. My GPS said 9 hours, Evie's Waze said 8, and it took just short of 9 hours, as we left at 8:30, arrived at 5:15.

Our Serious, Hard Working Granddaughter, Hayden |
Everyone was home at the Bissells, Drew from work, the girls from school and practices. They both look great, so grown up all of a sudden. Hayden runs track as a ninth grader, and Halle, a fifth grader, has started to play volleyball. In fact, she begged her Dad to go out in the yard and play the some pepper with her. We got caught up on our the family stuff, Drew's ski trip out to Jackson Hole with buddies, Jill's long weekend in Cancun with a couple of girlfriends. The modern marriage, I guess, where the couple's take separate vacations, to their liking. And family vacations, in between, when all of them went to Myrtle Beach for a week.

Halle, A Good Girl, Doing Dishes |

Drew With Man's Best Friend, Coco |
We had spaghetti and meatballs for dinner, with a salad and Italian bread, and it was good to eat at home, instead of a restaurant's bar. After dinner, we watched some TV, Evie quizzed Hayden for a test, and around 8:30, Jill and I went to Walgreens, to pick up a photo Hayden needed, and we bought some vanilla ice cream, so we could make tinroofs. Yum. Everyone went to bed by 10:00, thank goodness, because both Evie and I were exhausted. Nine hours in a car will do it.
