Pink Clouds, Blue Skies Before A Foggy Morning

It's 7:45 and I have been up for an hour, watching the morning sky transition from a blue with streaks of rose, the morning star, Venus and a crescent moon visible, to fog heavy enough to obscure Long Point.  Our yard is filled with golden leaves, a result of yesterday's rain and wind.  It's a chilly 38º and will get up to the high 50's later in the day, a great day for a clambake.

8:20
We did not get started till late yesterday, as Evie slept in until 9:15, lucky woman.  So we did little in the morning other than clean up the kitchen, read, and take it easy.  Around 10:30, I decided to go for a walk, the Woodlawn/Victoria walk in the woods. It had rained earlier in the morning but the trail was dry, covered with leaves.  Autumn is in full force around here.  The path was blocked in three places with dead fall, so I need to bring a saw with me next time.  It's an easy and convenient walk, most of it in woods, which makes it enjoyable.  And I am about the only one who walks it, enjoys the solitude of the woods.  It takes just about a half hour and as the weather turns cool, I will walk it more often.

We knew Friday was to be overcast, with rain on and off, so Evie scheduled a hair cut in Lakewood, leaving around noon, returning mid afternoon.  It was a smart plan because it was wet and gray most of the day.  I drove over to Bemus, had a coffee at Wired On Main, the local coffee/gift shop, and did some shopping as its the final weekend for many of the seasonal stores so they had great sales. Bemus Point was not very crowded though I imagine it will be busy this weekend.

I was home by 3:30, just as Evie returned.  We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing, reading and listening to Julie Mason's Press Pool on POTUS (interview with Ann Romney) before enjoying a glass of wine, of course, around 5:30, enjoying the waning of the late afternoon sun.  Dinner was easy, as Evie made a western omelet, with the leftover meatloaf, heated up the twice baked potatoes from Thursday night and we had a nice dinner.  We were at a loss as to what to watch, so we returned to an earlier episode of Masters of Sex, a series we are lukewarm towards, then switched to Real Time with Bill Maher, always a laugh, to end the night.

My book, THE NIGHTINGALE, set in France during the Nazi occupation, is getting hard to continue reading, as the SS troops have begun deporting the Jews, parents and their children, to 'work camps.'  Disgusting.  How could any human being be involved in such atrocities.  The answer: just following orders! And what's happening in Syria and Iraq at the moment, with the atrocities of ISIS, seems just as barbaric and inhumane.
