Gusty Winds, Blue/Gray Sky, A Gun Metal Gray Lake

6:56
7:00
It's later than usual for starting my blog, 8:15, the wind howling, the lake surface crinkled like wrapping paper, a chilly 41º, and off in the distance, some gun shots, duck season no doubt.  We have had non stop winds for 24 hours, small branches down in our yard, flags flying,  not the kind of weather for a kayak paddle.

Quiet And Beauty Of Jamestown's Lakeview Cemetery
Yesterday was much like today's supposed to be, overcast, cool, lots of wind.  Nevertheless, we decided to get outside and went to Jamestown's Lakeview Cemetery for a walk because we wanted to do some shopping in the downtown.  The leaves have yet to turn much but it was pleasant to walk in the cemetery, taking our time, reading the tombstones, recognizing many of the names of the founders of Jamestown and the area.  Lots of Swedish names, the founders of the area, and we noticed few if any Italian names which made us think there most be another cemetery for the Catholics.

James Prendergast Memorial
The most impressive monument was a huge statue to James Prendergast, the founder of Jamestown and its namesake.  We took an hour to do a loop before driving into Jamestown to shop, then stopping at Wegman's to pick up the basics for the weekend.  Evie, of course, had put her list on her new iPhone so she was happy, browsing the aisles, filling her cart.
Geraniums And A Family's Plot
We did not get home until 1:30 and I heated up half a Cuban sandwich, leftover from Monday night at the Viking Club, still good.  The rest of the afternoon was wasted, other than baking the sandwich bread which we had put together Thursday morning. It sat in the refrigerator for 24 hours rising, then out on the counter for four more hours, then rising in pans for an hour before baking.  I have yet to taste it but it looks good, should with whole wheat flour, milk, eggs, honey, and oats.  Around 4:00, the wind really seemed to pick up so I went out and took some of the chairs and benches off of the dock, worrying that the wind might pick them up and put them in the lake.  It's happened before.

The Guys
Around 6:30, the McClures, back in town, came over and we drove them to the Seezurh House in our new automobile.  They loved it but what else would they say.  The Seezurh was crowded and unusually loud, a typical Friday night I guess and we slipped easily into comfort of our 'go to' restaurant over the past twenty years.  We all have our favorites though I veered to the left, ordering garlic shrimp on linguine, not the usual fish fry.  It was decent not great, a bit bland for me.  .We enjoyed the ambiance and meals, the best part though... the beers!  We were home by 8:45, in time to watch some late night shows again, before going up to be around 10:30 to read.

No plans for today, perhaps a good day to make some chili or soup, staying warm and cosy in the house, reading, before going out to our neighbors' house for dinner this evening. The joy of retirement: not having to do anything if you do not want to.
