Slow Moving Clouds Above Lake Chautauqua

6:24
Up at 6:00 to a cloudy sky, not a very inviting morning and a cool 53º, fleece weather.  A single boat out on a surprisingly fall like morning.  I was hoping to go boating today but may have to put it off until tomorrow when it's supposed to warm up into the high 70's.  Today's high is supposed to be a chilly 63º.

Yesterday was a morning for waiting to launch my boat, hoping to beat the predicted thunderstorms. My neighbor came over around 10:45, and we took my car to get the boat, up at his storage shed on Carpenter Pringle Road, about a ten minute drive.  We hooked the boat up to the trailer, started the engine briefly to make sure everything was in order, then drove to Prendergast Point, where we launched it.  It started immediately, enshallah, and I drove off to our dock, again a ten minute ride.  I tied the boat up quickly, covered it again, and just made it into the house before the thunderstorm, heavy but brief rains, and lightning.  Great timing.

The rest of the afternoon was spent watching the World Cup, and finally there was a great game, a 5-1 victory by the Netherlands over Spain, a rematch of the World Cup Finals from four years ago with a quite different score.  And what a contrast to the boring game between Brazil and Croatia.  This one was filled with great passing, passion, and teamwork.  While I loafed in front of the tube, Evie worked assiduously on the Summer Photo Album, arranging and modifying and categorizing close to 200 disparate photos, quite a job.  She has, however, made great progress and hopes to have it done in the next day or two as Shutterfly offers 40% off your book if it's done by June 17th.  It pays to wait for these types of deals.

At 6:00, the McClures came over for a beer, then we went out for a  fish fry (sans Evie) at the Rod and Gun.  It was crowded, what else, all the parking lots full even at 7:15.  We waited at the bar for around forty minutes, drinking a pitcher of Molson's and gambling some, before being called to the dining room. We all ordered fish frys, with french fries and cole slaw, de riguer on Friday nights in many cities. When I was growing up in Euclid, a predominately catholic city, every restaurant and bar offered a Friday night fish fry and even though we were not Catholic, we would either go out for a  fish fry or my mom would broil or bake some kind of fish on Friday nights.  We all enjoyed our dinners at the Rod and Gun, especially the price,  and were home by 9:45.

Random Think:  There have been 74 school shootings (CNN) since the Newtown, CT, tragedy!
