8:00 Sun Burst |
Slept in a bit, till 7:15 because we both stayed up later than usual, watching the Golden Globes to the end, something we rarely do. It's comforting to see the sun this morning, to see some blue skies, to know that there's an alternative to gray. And it's surprisingly warm, 38º at the moment, feels like spring is around the corner.
Yesterday was mostly gray, what else, though it did not discourage the fishermen, small villages popping up around the lake. And it was warmer than usual as well as Sunday, adding to the popularity. I have missed not getting outside the last couple of days because of ice or cold, so I made myself walk the Woodlawn/Victoria loop, mostly staying off the still ice covered road, walking in yards or the woods. Lots of dead fall along the trail, which I cleared and it was still cold enough for the ground to have a crunch when I walked, keeping my feet dry. Lots of animal tracks, deer and rabbits I assume, though I rarely see any wild life when I walk. I also walked on the lake along Woodlawn, just to see how safe and it was, seemingly thick and still firm, a little broken up at the edges, but I can see why the fishermen were out in the middle.

A Bleak Kinney's Run |
We stayed in all afternoon, again watching some football, reading, and Evie put together a Greek moussaka, with fried eggplant, a tomato/sausage sauce, and to give it a twist, a layer of potatoes, which is the way we remember having it in Tavernas in Greece. The only difference, the moussaka was usually sitting in a pond of olive oil. We relaxed at dusk with a glass of wine, some triple cream brie from Trader Joe's and thought about how fortunate we are to be able to enjoy the lake, our house, and travel when we like.

Later Afternoon Augering |
Dinner was moussaka, not enough tomato sauce for Evie's taste but I loved it, having two huge helpings with the required salad. We watched the end of the football game, while waiting for Downton Abbey to start, and taping the Golden Globes. How tech savvy we have become. Downton Abbey was a bore until the last ten minutes; perhaps Julian Fellows realized this as well and threw in a rape, violent and unexpected. It certainly changes the tone of the series since Anna is the most likable character, patient and generous, and her husband, Bates, we also like but fear his temper. We will have to wait till next week to see how the violent dust settles.
The rest of the evening, we watched the Golden Globes, never quite understanding the categories, thinking
American Hustle received the award for best picture, only to discover at the end that
Twelve Years a Slave also got best picture. I guess one was comedy, one drama, or something like that. Tina Fey and Amy Poheler, however, were both funny, easy to watch, moving things along.
