Fall Ahead, Summer Behind

Awake early but didn't get out of bed till 7:00, another cloudy morning, no sun rise apparent,  and one lonely boat just drove by, as far as I can see, the only boat on the lake.  It's a chilly 43º, typical I suppose for a fall day but it seems strange to think summer is behind us.

Yesterday, we started the chore of getting ready for  fall, then winter, always a sad event.  It's strange how the first day of fall brings a change in attitude, a looking backward at a wonderful summer that is now over for good, the looking forward to a new season, of colors, of falling leaves, of dropping temperatures and no doubt, before winter, a fall snow.  And yesterday's temperature, the high in the 50's, was a very autumn like day.  So I called my neighbor, and he helped me take my boat out of the water, drop it off to be winterized and power washed, getting it ready for the summer of 2014.  It's always a bitter sweet event, knowing that the booze cruises on the lake are over but there's a satisfaction in getting the boat out and stored for the winter, one more chore done for the winter.

Another relaxing afternoon, watching some football and reading before we went over to the McClure's for an amazing Octoberfest dinner, home made pretzels, dumplings, pork roast, sausage and sauerkraut and of course, Sam Adams Octoberfest brew.  It was also, as we noted, the first dinner since spring when it was dark while we ate, the sun setting earlier each evening.  Before dinner, we sat outside around a fire, talking till it got dark and it was time to go inside for dinner.  We got home around 10:00, just in time to watch the second to last episode of Breaking Bad, still compelling and ending, as usual with violence, the execution of a innocent mother, reminding all that these are not nice people, Walt included.  What a fall into evil.  And some are just evil I suppose.  How will it end?  Will Walt avenge his brother in law's murder by taking out Jack and his buddies? Will Jessie be saved by Walt?  We will have to wait a week to find out.
