April Fools: Snow Flurries And The Herons Return

Herons Are Back

Snow Flurries This Morning

Surprise, up at 7:00 and the lawn, cars, some trees have a wet snow, as its 30ยบ outside and more snow showers are expected for the next two or three days.  They stop on Thursday, the day we start our drive to Kansas City, stopping Thursday night, where else, in Effingham, IL.

I cannot even remember what yesterday was like, pathetic, a good day for a walk at the CI for sure.  It was still crisp and cool out, though there was some sun, so it was good walking around the grounds, the roads finally clear of snow and ice, just piles on driveways from the plows.  We continue to enjoy the progress on the Pruell House, on the north end. There's no way it's going to be done in time for the season, so the family will have to wait till Spring, 2014 to get in.  They started on it in the fall of 2010 if I am correct.  Since it was Easter Sunday, few people were around but the Hurlburt Church street was packed with cars.

We have wondered about what was going on in the woods around Thunder Bridge, at the south end, as scores of trees have been taken down, creating quite a mess, worrying us that a development was on the way.  I talked, finally, to the bookstore manager and was told they were just thinning out the dead trees, not developing it.  It's a mess, however, with truck lanes between the trees, lots of sawdust.

We came home to a breakfast of bagels, bacon, and eggs, and watched CBS Sunday Morning.  The rest of the afternoon was spent watching the last two games of March Madness, a lazy but enjoyable way to spend a Sunday.  Around 4:00, Evie put together our dinner of a lemony chicken, baked on top of potatoes, a recipe much like my daughter Beth made for us in February.

We were thrilled to see, just before dinner, a heron fly by our house, settle down on the open water at the mouth of Victoria Creek and peck a way, looking for fish.  I went outside and took a picture but could not get too close as they are wary of people.

Dinner was great, especially the Brussels sprouts, a vegetable I never tire of eating.  We watched the rest of The Killing, were shocked to find out that Jamie was behind the murder of Rosie, that Darrin seems to be following the previous mayor's corruption pattern, and that Linden walked away from the next case, also a murder.  Is she leaving the force, her partner Holder, returning to her fiancee and son Jack?  I don't think so.  We will have to wait till May to find out.  This series grows on you, like most, but both of us are often frustrated with our inability to hear what Holder and Linden are saying.  They both seem to mumble and speak quietly.  Frustrating.

  1. Dear Uncle Tom: please stop with the spoilers! We haven't watched season 2 yet of The Killing. Loved the first one. We stopped our Netflix act awhile ago but want to start it up and watch it. Hope you are well and spring comes soon.
