Fifty Nine Degrees, A Spring Like January Morning

Chautauqua at 8:00 in the Morning

A strange morning, as  I walked outside, met by a warm southerly wind and the sound of a boat motor though the lake in front of our house is still iced over.  The boat was at Warner Bay where the water has been open most of the winter.  The lake seems to freeze in certain areas, down at the north end in Mayville but not in front of the CI, frozen in front of Woodlawn/Victoria but not Whitney or Warner Bays.  The sun is just starting to rise, lots of clouds, some orange and pink and gray, making it hard to figure out what kind of a day it will be other than warm.

Yesterday began with 9:30 Classical Yoga, the class that was cancelled on Tuesday.  Clearly, a number of women did not know about the cancellation (they are not on Facebook), so Chris, our teacher, was very apologetic, wanting to know how the communication can be improved.  How about by not cancelling class!  We worked most of the hour on poses emphasizing the back, especially how to bend from the hips and thighs as opposed from the lower back.  It was interesting and important, to see how we often strain backs by the way we sit or bend.  We finished with a twenty minute yoga nidra or savasana.  While I was a yoga, Evie worked out at the YMCA in Lakewood, stopped at Wegmans to pick up a few items, then picked me up at the Ryder's Cup Coffee shop in Lakewood.

We relaxed most of the afternoon, though I did work some in the yard, picking up lots of branches and twigs as most of the snow had melted.  Only piles of snow left by the snow plow remain in our yard and I assume will be gone by the end of the day.  It was unseasonably warm, not energizing the way a cold afternoon seems to be for us, so we did not hike or walk, plus we had worked out in the morning.

The Blurry Boys at Bellinis
At 6:00, we were supposed to go to Fredonia, to the Ellicottville Brew Pub, for dinner with the Mc Clures but on our drive over to their house, the ground fog was so bad we decided to stick around Mayville.  I am glad we did because our ride home was very slow and scary at times, as the fog was so thick.  We decided to try Bellini's, the bar/restaurant at Chautauqua Escapes, the large motel in Mayville.  The parking lot was full, so that I had to drive around twice to find a place to park.  We had never seen so many people there, the reason, a late Christmas party for the Purina/Nestle company out of Dunkirk.  The lounge was not full but lots of people from the party would come in to order a drink or watch the NFL game.  Because it was so busy, they had run out of two kinds of draft beer, so we ended up drinking bottled beer, alas...life is tough.  We both ordered pizzas, thin crust and almost burnt and they were both surprisingly good, though the salads, a Caesar and wedge, were rip offs, seven bucks for a small plate of greens or head lettuce.  It was fun to people watch, as the women were very dressed up, some with alarmingly short and inappropriate (we thought) dresses and the guys all looked somewhat dumpy, overweight and disheveled, despite a dress shirt and tie.  We enjoyed the evening even if we didn't get to Fredonia and I would go back, at least for the pizza.  And on the 26th, our favorite local rock band, Smackdab will play in the lounge so we hope to go back for that.

We drove home slowly, through the heavy fog, watched some of the 49ers and Packers game, soon tired of it and went upstairs to read and go to bed.
