A Special Sunday Morning Sky

It's just about time for NPR's Weekend Sunday and I have been up since 6:30, enjoying the morning sky, of heavy, gray threatening clouds and streaks of light from the rising sun.  Needless to say, I was outside taking mucho photos, one seemingly better than the other.  It's a chilly 37ยบ as we edge closer to the winter solstice, to the end of autumn.

One Of Our Favorites, A Tufted Titmouse
Saturday was overcast and chilly until later in the day, when the sun peaked out.  We had a day of little activity in the morning.  Evie went through our refrigerator, pulled out any vegetable she could find, and made a huge pot of her vegetable soup for the week, in between taking pictures of the birds at our feeder.  I can tell the cold weather is coming when she gets the urge to make her soup.  I had my usual run to the Transfer Station but also drove off to Wegman's because I hope to make a chickpea stew with orzo and greens, in my attempt to make a different bean dish each week.  So I needed a few things to make it, thus the trip to Lakewood, to round out our morning of small tasks.

After pizza for lunch, we both took it easy, the outdoors uninviting because of the threatening sky, the cold, so we hunkered down in our warm, cosy house, reading, watching some TV, a bit of football until 4:00 when the sun miraculously appeared.  We decided to get some exercise and drove over to Bemus Point to walk Lakeside Drive.  Just as we started our walk, it began to rain but it lasted only a few minutes so we continued on our way, taking our time, enjoying the clouds in the Western sky, as the sun began to set.  We decided either we need a home on this side of the lake for taking photographs of the sunset or we should walk the East side of the lake more often, a  better and cheaper choice.  We met a solitary runner on our way back, despite the fact it was a fine late afternoon, the wind having died, the sun setting.

By the time we returned home, it was already dark at 5:30.  Evie had our dinner of TJ's ribs, potatoes, and cole slaw mostly done, so we could enjoy our cheese, crackers, cocktail and Prairie Home Companion.  Just as we sat down, it began to rain, violently, then sleet, to our surprise, pelting the roof, the remaining leaves on the  trees, the ground.  It lasted only a few minutes, but the rain continued on and off during the night, so we had almost a half inch of precipitation overnight.

Dinner was great, especially the combination of ribs and cole slaw, and we watched another Bill Maher's Real Time, not one of his best despite having Anthony Weiner, Keith Olberman and Quentin Tarrantino as guests.  We then watched Friday night's Stephen Colbert but I was too tired to wait up to see Whoopi Goldberg, John Kasich and other guests.  We were both in bed by 11:00, looking foward to another Sunday morning.
