A Night of Jamestown Red Raider Basketball

7:46
Sun Reflection On Bemus Point Windows: 5:36 PM
I finally got up around 7:15, after a couple of tries, to 7º temperatures, and a changing winter sky, at first a tinge of pink, now a mottled gray and white mix of clouds as the sun rises.  A single fishermen, off of Long Point, like a smudge on the vast white tundra of Chautauqua Lake.  Tonight, the frost bite weather returns, with a low of -8.

We both got our work out in yesterday morning, with yoga a 9:30 while Evie worked out at the YMCA.  It seemed too cold to hike somewhere, at least in the morning, so we decided to stay inside. Yoga was great because there were only four of us, allowing us to do various asanas (poses), a number with our legs up the wall, called Falling Water.  It was fun to hold different kinds of asanas and Danielle even asked if there were areas of the body we might want to emphasize, like the lower back, always a problem for us oldsters.  Evie picked me up at Ryder Cup around 11:00 and we came straight home, no shopping on Monday.

Veggie soup and toasted cheese (with jam) for lunch and we did not do much the rest of the day until dinner time.  I read some and about 4:00 decided to get in some aerobic exercise by cross country skiing on the lake, hoping it would be better than last time.  I followed some snow mobile trails to Whitney Bay, even then some paths were still mushy, leaving wet tracks.  Fortunately, my skis did not freeze up and the wind was not severe though my thumb, for some reason, really became cold and hurt, so that I put it under cold water when I returned.  The hypochrodriac that I am, I wondered if it was the beginning of frost bite.
Williamsville North's Cheer Leaders
The Game Begins
Around 5:30, we drove into Jamestown, stopping at Jamestown Cycle Shop to look at cross country ski packages for Evie.  The salesman was helpful and suggested we might want to rent some skis before buying, just to see if they were the right package.  We may look at Hollyloft today, the other ski and bike store in the area.  We ate for the second time in a week at Taco Hut.  Evie had her favorite, the portabella pizza and I had a burrito plate, with rice and refried beans.  About 7:20, we drove over to the Jamestown High School gym for the boys basketball game with bitter rival Williamsville North, a game which would determine the league championship.  Lots of people, as many adults as students, with rap music blaring, fans cheering, and a herd of thirty Williamsville dancers and cheerleaders,  prancing on the sidelines, a fun night in a high school gym.  Jamestown played well, winning by 15 points, the fans loud and excited as the team built their lead.  Interestingly, during the National Anthem,  the adults stood at attention, facing the flag, while most of the students kibitzed with each other, texting on their phones, paying little attention to the flag.  Ah youth...why can't they be like we were, perfect in every way!  We left during the fourth quarter, to avoid the crowd, and listened to the rest of the game on WJTN as we drove home.
Roger Rabbit, On Our Porch
By 9:30, we were in our sweats, comfy and warm, in the TV room, ready to watch the most recent episode of True Detective, on HBO.  Unfortunately, it gets less and less interesting, falling back into the cliche of most cop programs, with mega violence, a lack of originality, something the first episode seemed to herald, a cop show different from any other.  Not so.
