As I look out my front window, the lake is a dirty gray, still frozen but beginning to thaw. The snow in our front yard has all but melted over the past few days and today the high may get up to a toasty 50º.
Another Fun Christmas With Jill, Drew, And The Girls |
Yesterday began with coffee at Jill's at 7:00 and by 8:05, we were packed and ready to hit the road. We drove an hour, stopped for gas at our usual station, Shawnee Springs Market, and then a half hour later at McDonald's for breakfast. Fortunately, we had decent weather, and the sun even came out for a few minutes. Our final stop was at Gios and I skipped the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw because once we got to Warren, we stopped at Burger King for a couple of whopper meals, like last time we were on the road,
Allegheny State Park |
We were home by 3:30, a little over seven hours and all was well at the lake house. We quickly unpacked the car and put things away so that by 4:15, we were both ensconced on couches, reading or watching TV. I even fell asleep for half an hour, obviously tired from the holidays and our trip. Since we had whoppers at 3:00, we had an easy dinner, a couple of bowls of Evie's vegetable soup and that was it. We watched an emotional film called Four Good Days, about a drug addict attempting to come clean while living with her mother. It's harrowing to watch her struggle with her addiction and her mother's guilt. I highly recommend it, with Glenn Close and Mila Kunis. We ended the night with junk TV, then some Cavs after Evie went up to bed.
